Surface waves in chiral layers

Optics Letters, 1991
We analyze the surface-wave propagation in homogeneous layers of chiral or optically active materials. Two cases of chiral slab are considered: a symmetric chiral slab waveguide and a grounded chiral slab waveguide. The dispersion relation and the electric-field components for surface waves guided in a symmetric chiral slab are analyzed and discussed ...

Micromachined double-layer chiral metasurface

AOPC 2021: Micro-optics and MOEMS, 2021
This paper reports the design of a double layer micromachined chiral metasurface. The cou-pling of the two layers can be tuned via shifting the unit cells of the top layer. The tunable metasurface has large optical activity in terahertz frequency range. Furthermore asymmetric transmission of 16% is also demonstrated in the numerical simulation.

A comment on chiral thin layer chromatography

Chinese Journal of Chromatography, 2016
In recent eight years, authors' group has repeated a lot of experiments of chiral thin layer chromatography coming from literature. From the practical opinion, we summarized that there are nine characteristics for chiral thin layer chromatography.

Chiral Layers on Curved Surfaces

Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 1992
Backscatter from curved metallic surfaces coated with chiral layers is investigated. Here we examine canonical cylindrical and spherical geometries to understand basic scattering and absorption mechanisms, and to find the efficacy of chiral coatings in reducing radar cross-section.

Chiral Layers on Planar Surfaces

Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 1992
Here the reflection from chiral coated planar surfaces is investigated. This canonical problem is formulated in terms of the Riccati equation for local reflection to provide an understanding of the fundamental physical processes involved with reflection and absorption by chiral layers. The link between chiral and achiral formulations is noted.

Multi-Layered Chiral Filters

Electromagnetics, 1997
ABSTRACT The use of multi-layered chiral structures as filters in the microwave frequency range is studied in this paper. These chiral devices can replace their dielectric counterparts when the synthesis of the latter has furnished values of refractive indices which are unavailable, and, in addition, they are able to rotate the plane of polarization of

Chiral photonic crystals with an anisotropic defect layer

Physical Review E, 2007
In the present paper we consider some properties of defect modes in chiral photonic crystals with an anisotropic defect layer. We solved the problem by Ambartsumian's layer addition method. We investigated the influence of the defect layer thickness variation and its location in the chiral photonic crystal (CPC) and also its optical axes orientation ...

Chiral layered metallic microstructures

Technical Digest. Summaries of papers presented at the Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference. Postconference Technical Digest (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37172), 2002
Summary form only given. We suggest a new layered metallic micro-structure which exhibit pronounced polarization-sensitive properties. The transmittance and reflectance of the structures are strongly polarization-dependent, resembling the properties of chiral liquid crystals.

Defect modes in a periodic structure with chiral layers

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2009
A periodic sequence of pairs of isotropic and chiral layers with a defect in the mth period is investigated. The problem is solved using the 2x2-block-representation transfer-matrix formulation. A method that simultaneously allows taking into account different types of defects in the structure is proposed.

Cover and uncover: chiral switching exploiting templating and layer-by-layer grafting

Chemical Communications, 2013
Consecutive grafting of crosslinked L-phenylalanine anilide, D-phenylalanine anilide and non-imprinted polymer layers on the surface of wide pore silica resulted in porous composite beads displaying enantiomeric discrimination reflecting the last grafted layer.
