Antimicrobial Properties of Chitosan and Chitosan Derivatives
2016The investigations of chitosan as an antimicrobial substance came into focus in the 1990s. The number of publications on this topic has been rapidly increasing since then, with more than 2,500 papers published in 2020. Initially, the interest was mainly related to potential applications in agriculture and food products, but currently, the emphasis on ...

Application of chitosan and chitosan derivatives as biomaterials
Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, 2016Abstract Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide composed of randomly distributed β-(1-4)-linked d -glucosamine and N-acetyl- d -glucosamine. It is one of the major cationic polymers and the second most abundant polysaccharides in nature. It is extensively used to the biomedical and the industrial fields. Specially, chitosan has been studied much in the

Conventional heating and microwave irradiation have been compared for the synthesis of chitosans grafted with alkyl chains. Reaction time (1-60 min), temperature (25 and 40 °C) and chitosan molar mass have been studied onto the yield of alkylation. The irradiation mode has been scrupulously controlled to highlight the effect of the use of microwaves ...

Chitosan and Chitosan Derivatives in Drug Delivery and Tissue Engineering
2011Chitosan is a nontoxic, biodegradable, and biocompatible polysaccharide of β(1-4)-linked d-glucosamine and N-acetyl-d-glucosamine. This derivative of natural chitin presents remarkable properties that have paved the way for the introduction of chitosan in the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields.

Environmental Applications of Chitosan and Its Derivatives
2014Chitosan originates from the seafood processing industry and is one of the most abundant of bio-waste materials. Chitosan is a by-product of the alkaline deacetylation process of chitin. Chemically, chitosan is a polysaccharide that is soluble in acidic solution and precipitates at higher pHs.

Chitosan Derivatives as Gene Carriers
Key Engineering Materials, 2005Chitosan has been considered to be a good candidate for gene delivery system, since it is already known as a biocompatible, biodegradable, and low toxic material with high cationic potential. However, low specificity and low transfection efficiency of chitosan need to be overcome prior to clinical trial.

Synthesis of cyanoethyl chitosan derivatives
Polymer Science Series A, 2006Cyanoethyl chitosan derivatives with various substitution degrees have been synthesized by the nucleophilic addition of acrylonitrile to the functional groups of chitosan. The process proceeds under homogeneous conditions without any catalyst at various pH values and reagent concentrations in the temperature range of 273–333 K.
