Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Evaluation of Cellular Responses of Heterotrophic Escherichia coli Cultured with Autotrophic Chlamydomonas reinhardtii as a Nutrient Source by Analyses Based on Microbiology and Transcriptome

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Heterotrophic microorganism Escherichia coli LS5218 was cultured with flesh green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii C-9: NIES-2235 as a nutrient supplier. In order to evaluate the cell response of Escherichia coli with Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, Escherichia

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Phosphoribulokinase [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1990
The sequence and kinetic properties of phosphoribulokinase purified from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii were determined and compared with the spinach (Spinacea oleracea) enzyme. Chlamydomonas phosphoribulokinase was purified to apparent homogeneity, with a specific activity of 410 micromoles per minute per milligram.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

An Update on the Metabolic Roles of Carbonic Anhydrases in the Model Alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

open access: yesMetabolites, 2018
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are metalloenzymes that are omnipresent in nature. CAs catalyze the basic reaction of the reversible hydration of CO2 to HCO3− and H+ in all living organisms. Photosynthetic organisms contain six evolutionarily different classes

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Flagellar assembly in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii regulated by intraflagellar transport protein IFT81

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2015
A Chlamydomonas reinhardtii immobile mutant named ift81 was screened by insertional mutagenesis. The mutant was bald or with two short flagella. Gene sequencing confirmed that fifty-two base pairs in the fifth extron of IFT81 gene were replaced by the ...

Cytoduction in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1991
After conjugation between Chlamydomonas gametes of opposite mating type, a transient dikaryon is formed. The two nuclei fuse within 4-6 hr after mating. The young diploid zygote differentiates into dormant zygospore competent to complete meiosis, or more rarely (2-10% of cases) it undergoes mitosis to produce a stable diploid progeny.

Oxygen Supply of Islets of Langerhans by Photosynthetically Active Microalgae in Bioprinted Co‐Cultures Maintains Their Function in a Hypoxic Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study developed a bioprinted co‐culture system embedding rat pancreatic islets and Scenedesmus sp. microalgae spatially defined in close vicinity. Red light was found optimal to ensure microalgal photosynthesis while maintaining islet viability and functionality. A tailored co‐culture medium supported both cell types.
