Effect of nitric oxide on the growth ofChlamydophila pneumoniae
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 2005Chlamydophila pneumoniae is an important human intracellular pathogen; however, the pathogenesis of C. pneumoniae infection is poorly understood and the immune control mechanism versus host cells is not completely known. The role of the nitric oxide (NO) synthase pathway in inhibiting the ability of C. pneumoniae to infect macrophage J774 cells and the

Association of Alzheimer's disease and Chlamydophila pneumoniae
Journal of Infection, 2008This paper critically reviews the association of infection by Chlamydophila pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). The aging population has increased interest in finding the cause of AD, but studies have yielded contradictory results that are likely due to varying diagnostic tools and different uses of diagnostic tests.

Relationship between Chlamydophila Pneumoniae and Atherosclerosis
The Egyptian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2015The present work to evaluate whether there is a significant relationship between atherosclerosis and Chlamydophila Pneumoniae (C. pneumoniae) infection by using the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) techniques to detect the antibodies, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the microbial DNA.

Summary Chlamydophila (Chlamydia) pneumoniae, a gram-negative obligate intracellular bacterium, is a widespread respiratory pathogen. Chronic C. pneumoniae infection has been suggested as a trigger/ promoter of inflammation that may result in vascular lesions. Although the genome of C. pneumoniae has been sequenced completely this information

Chlamydophila pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pneumoniae
American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2005The potential role of atypical bacterial infection in the pathogenesis of asthma is a subject of continuing debate. There is an increasing body of literature concerning the association between the atypical bacteria Chlamydophila pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pneumoniae and asthma pathogenesis; however, many studies investigating such a link have been ...

Chlamydophila pneumoniae serology: cross-reaction with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection
Journal of Infection and Chemotherapy, 2013Atypical pathogens Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydophila pneumoniae play an important role in community-acquired pneumonia. However, it has been pointed out that positive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA, Hitazyme C. pneumoniae) IgM reactivity is frequent among M. pneumoniae pneumonia patients.

Development of a hamster model of Chlamydophila pneumoniae infection
Veterinary Research Communications, 2005The aim of this study was to develop a new experimental model of Chlamydophila pneumoniae infection in the hamster. Intraperitoneal injection of C. pneumoniae purified elementary bodies (EBs) in the hamsters caused a systemic infection, since it was possible to isolate viable chlamydiae from several organs up to 14 days after infection.

, a common cause of respiratory tract infections, rarely leads to serious conditions. A 13-year-old boy with serologically confirmed C. pneumoniae infection presented with pneumonia complicated by pericardial and bilateral pleural effusions. He had a large haemorrhagic pericardial effusion from which 1000 ml of fluid was aspirated over 10 days and a ...

Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections, and asthma control
Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, 2011The influence of respiratory infections on asthma has not been fully understood. Acute viral and bacterial infections often lead to exacerbations. Less is known about the role of chronic infections, particularly with atypical pathogens. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of Chlamydophila pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections on ...
