The role of antibiotics in preventing surgical complications in periodontology and implant dentistry

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Antibiotics are commonly prescribed in periodontal and implant surgeries, either before, during or after surgery, to prevent postoperative infection and reduce early implant failure. Gastroschisis‐Like Defect in a Crossbred Bovine Calf: Anatomical, Clinical and Surgical Perspectives

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
A gastroschisis‐like defect was observed in a one‐day‐old, crossbred bovine calf with evisceration of the pyloric abomasum and small intestine, likely resulting from prenatal rupture of an omphalocele. The calf presented with lethargy, hypothermia and metabolic derangements, along with elevated renal biomarkers.

Palatal Donor‐Site Healing and Patient‐Reported Outcome Measures Following Chitosan and Injectable Platelet‐Rich Fibrin‐Enriched Chitosan Application Compared with Gelatine Sponge: A Three‐Arm Randomised Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, Volume 53, Issue 11, Page 1702-1711, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim To compare clinical outcomes and patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) of palatal donor‐site healing following the use of an absorbable gelatine sponge, a chitosan sponge or an injectable platelet‐rich fibrin (i‐PRF)‐enriched chitosan sponge after free gingival graft harvesting.

Treatment of Epulis Fissuratum Using an In Situ Harvested Free Gingival Graft: A Case Series and Literature Review

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Epulis fissuratum (EF) is a reactive fibrous overgrowth in the oral vestibule caused by chronic denture irritation. We describe two patients (aged 58 and 42 years) in whom EF was excised and vestibuloplasty performed using a free gingival graft (FGG) harvested from the excised lesion itself.
