ABSTRACT Aim We reconstructed the biogeographic history of Pappophorinae and tested whether the evolution of awns is associated with differences in species' geographic ranges. Location Americas. Time Period Miocene. Major Taxa Studies Pappophorinae (Poaceae: Chloridoideae).

The Cerrado grass layer benefits from frequent fires and is resilient even to an extreme fire regime, such as seven annual burns. Recurrent mid‐dry‐season fires are not harmful to the grass layer and should be less concerning than prolonged fire‐suppression regimes, which diminish grasses' biomass, cover, diversity and functioning. Maintaining frequent

Eragrostis walteri — a first record of non-Kranz leaf anatomy in the sub-family Chloridoideae (Poaceae) [PDF]
Eragrostis walteri Pilg., a grass species from the Namib Desert in South West Africa/Namibia, is shown to have non-Kranz leaf anatomy and, consequently, it is predicted that it utilizes the C3 photosynthetic pathway.

A phylogeny of the Cotteinae (Poaceae, Chloridoideae, Eragrostideae)
To investigate the evolutionary relationships among 23 species in the Cotteinae we generated a DNA sequence-derived phylogeny utilizing three plastid (rps16-trnK spacer, rps16 intron, rpl32-trnL spacer) regions and the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region.

Phylogenetics of Chloridoideae (Gramineae): a Preliminary Study Based on Nuclear Ribosomal Internal Transcribed Spacer and Chloroplast trnL–F Sequences [PDF]
The phylogeny of Chloridoideae (Gramineae) was inferred from parsimony analyses of DNA sequences from two genomes—the chloroplast trnL intron, trnL 3\u27 exon, and trnL–F intergenic spacer, and the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region ...
