Modeling Pd-Catalyzed Destruction of Chlorinated Ethenes in Groundwater

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2003
Groundwater contamination by chlorinated ethenes is a widespread environmental problem. Shortcomings in conventional remediation methods have motivated research into novel treatment technologies. A palladium/alumina catalyst in the presence of molecu- lar hydrogen gas ~referred to hereafter as the Pd/H2 system!

The coadsorption of ethene and chlorine on Ag(100)

Journal of Electron Spectroscopy and Related Phenomena, 1993
Abstract We have characterised the low temperature adsorption of ethene on both clean and chlorine-precovered Ag(100) surfaces. On the clean surface at temperatures ca. 100 K ethene is found to be weakly π-bonded at all coverages with dynamic pressures of the gas being required to saturate the monolayer adsorption state. At high coverages, around the

Nanoscale iron particles for complete reduction of chlorinated ethenes

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2001
Abstract This paper examines the potential for using laboratory synthesized nanoscale Pd/Fe bimetallic particles to reduce chlorinated ethenes. Rapid and complete dechlorination was achieved for six chlorinated ethenes: tetrachloroethene (PCE, C 2 Cl 4 ), trichloroethene (TCE, C 2 HCl 3 ), 1,1-dichloroethene (1,1-DCE, C 2 H 2 Cl 2 ), cis - and ...

Effect of Hydrogen on Reductive Dechlorination of Chlorinated Ethenes

Environmental Science & Technology, 1997
A methanogenic fluidized bed reactor (FBR) fed with lactate and tetrachloroethene (PCE) was operated for 14 months to study the effect of electron donor and PCE loading on chloroethene dechlorination rates. Lactate was fed continu ously at 200 mg/L (2.2 mmol/L), and the influent PCE feed concentration was increased stepwise from 3.5 to 160 μmol/L ...

Constitutive dechlorination of chlorinated ethenes by a methanol degrading methanogenic consortium

Bioresource Technology, 2001
The ability of granular methanogenic sludge to dechlorinate chloroethenes was investigated with unadapted sludge from an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor fed with methanol. The sludge degraded chlorinated ethenes, but the degradation rates were low. The addition of primary substrate was necessary to sustain dechlorination.

Estimation of Sequential Degradation Rate Coefficients for Chlorinated Ethenes

Practice Periodical of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste Management, 2009
A sequential anaerobic-aerobic bioremediation pilot test was performed to assess its viability for chlorinated ethenes and to determine scaling parameters for remedial design. Transect data were evaluated to determine the first-order degradation rate of trichloroethene (TCE).

[Dechlorination of chlorinated ethenes under different redox conditions].

Huan jing ke xue= Huanjing kexue, 2002
Chlorinated ethenes are pollutants in contaminated soil and groundwater, and one of the efficient way to remove them is biodegradation. In this paper, the microbial breakdown of PCE, cis-DCE and VC with initial concentrations of 100 mumol/L were studied under different redox conditions at temperature 20 degrees C.
