Oocystaenium, a new genus of the chlorococcales

Hydrobiologia, 1959
In August 1954, an alga was collected from accumulations of rain water in a field in Goregaon, a suburb of Bombay . A prolonged spell of dry weather in September caused the disappearance of the alga . It was collected early in July in the following year at the commencement of the rains and disappeared at the close of the wet season, as in the previous ...

Nitrate reduction in Chlorococcales

Hydrobiologia, 1981
Nitrate reducing activity of ten species of Chlorococcalean green algae, grown in three different nitrogen sources, is reported. Results showed that all the ten species exhibited nitrate reducing capacity but they differed very much in their activity. Induction of nitrate reductase was achieved by incubating in nitrate.

Degradation of long chain n-alkanes by Chlorococcales

European Journal of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1981
Four out of thirty-one algae strains belonging to the order Chlorococcales exhibited good growth on solid media containing n-alkanes. Chlorella vulgaris (397) was able to degrade n-tridecane in cooxidation. The corresponding secondary alcohols and ketones in C2-to C7-position could be identified in the culture broth.

Observations on a new species of Crucigenia Morren (Chlorococcales)

Phycologia, 1971
Abstract Structure and reproduction of a new species of Crucigenia, C. mitrii sp. nov., isolated from a waste water drain at Allahabad (India) are described. The species is comparable to C. quadrata Morren and C. triangularis (Chodat) Schmidle, but is distinct in shape of colony, the formation of two autocolonies in each parent cell of a mother ...

The genera Spongiococcum and Neospongiococcum (Chlorophyceae, Chlorococcales)

Phycologia, 1976
Abstract Part I of this series emended tbe genus Spongiococcum, erected the genus Neospongiococcum, and described the multinucleate species of the new genus (Deason, 1971). Part II described the species of Neospongiococcum with walls labile in oxalic acid, oxalo-acetic acid, or NaOH (Deason & Cox, 1971).
