Size‐Dependent Contact Angles of Microscopic Droplets on Ultra‐Smooth Silanized Surfaces Probed by Atomic Force Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Wetting is vital in many technologies, but remains hard to predict due to complex phase interactions. Young's law predicts macroscale wetting on ideal surfaces, while line tension theory is limited to nanoscale droplets. Here, using AFM, the scale gap is bridged by focusing on microscopic droplets and predicting their contact angle on real surfaces ...

Cellulose‐Nanocrystal‐Promoted Underwater Superoleophobic Wrinkles on Hydrogel Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Cellulose nanocrystals are assembled on the hydrogel surface by electrophoresis to form a wrinkled structure, creating superoleophobic surfaces that act as an antifouling surface in water. Abstract The surfaces of hydrogels need to be modified to endow them with antifouling properties in water.

Solvent‐Free Phase Separation of Polystyrene‐block‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) Forming Freestanding Photonic Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This work presents a scalable, eco‐friendly approach to forming microstructured block copolymer (BCP) films within 15 min through hot pressing. This process enables phase separation even for high‐molecular‐weight BCPs, which are often trapped in spherical structures using time‐consuming solvent processes.

Self‐Cleaning Dual‐Scale Heterostructured Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Sheet With Anti‐Icing and UV Resistant Functionalities

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
By integrating a thermal engraving method with polymer modification through reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization to introduce fluorinated functional groups, micro‐nano superhydrophobic PET surfaces are prepared. These newly developed surfaces demonstrate outstanding water repellency and effective removal of both water ...

Raman Marker Bands for In Situ Quality Control During Synthesis of 2D Conjugated Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The properties of 2D conjugated metal–organic frameworks (2D c‐MOFs) are related to their structure and are influenced by the synthesis conditions. Here, in situ, Raman and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are used to determine Raman marker bands that characterise the reaction progress and yield of phthalocyanine‐based 2D Cu2[ZnPc‐O8] MOFs. Thus,
