Genetic Activity of Chlorophenols and Chlorophenol Impurities
1978Studies were made of the genetic activity of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, pentachlorophenol, and their impurities: 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzofuran 2,4,4′,6-tetrachlorodiphenyl ether 2,4,4′, 5-tetrachlorodiphenyl ether 4,5,6-trichloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenol, (Cl5-predioxin) 4-chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenol, (Cl3 ...

Chlorophenol Exposure in Sawmills
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1985Personnel exposures to chlorophenols were measured in ten Finnish sawmills where a chlorophenolate salt formulation was used for the blue stain control of sawed wood. The concentrations of chlorophenols in the air were usually well below the occupational limit value of 0.5 mg/m3. However, high concentrations (above 10 mg/m3) were measured inside heated

A Gram-negative aerobic bacterium capable of using 2-chlorophenol (2-CP), 3-chlorophenol (3-CP) and 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) as sole carbon sources was isolated and characterized. The bacterium, designated LD1, was identified to be a Pseudomonas pickettii strain. LD1 was able to totally degrade and dechlorinate 2-CP (initial concentration: 1.51 mmol l-1),

Wet peroxide oxidation of chlorophenols
Water Research, 2005This study evaluates the application of Wet Peroxide Oxidation (WPO) for the treatment of solutions containing 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP). These compounds are of special interest due to their high toxicity and low biodegradability.

Enzymatic Oxidative Transformation of Chlorophenol Mixtures
Journal of Environmental Quality, 2003ABSTRACTChlorinated phenols are major industrial and agricultural xenobiotics that pollute soil and ground water. It has been shown that laccases catalyze the oxidative coupling of phenolic compounds. Therefore, the transformation of one or a mixture of several chlorinated phenols by a laccase from the fungus Trametes villosa was studied. Generally, if

Marine Bacteria Tolerant to Chlorophenols
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1999The cellulose industry produce chlorophenols as a result of the use of chlorine during pulp cellulose bleaching, and are discharged into natural waters by their effluents. The pollution of coastal sea waters by chlorophenols and several other organic compounds could modify the biota of this environment because the compounds have high toxicity, are ...

Urinary chlorophenols in sawmill workers
International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1987The concentration of urinary chlorophenol was assayed for 230 sawmill workers. Information on the work tasks was obtained through questionnaires from occupational health centres. The workers were divided into three groups on the basis of the type of exposure: (1) those with skin absorption as the main route, (2) those with skin and respiratory route of

Enzymatically mediated incorporation of 2-chlorophenol and 4-chlorophenol into humic acids
Chemosphere, 1994Abstract A possible route to chlorinated humic substances in the environment, is an indirect chlorination of humic material by enzymatically mediated incorporation of low molecular weight organo-chlorine compounds into the humic skeleton. The enzymatically mediated incorporation of 2-chlorophenol and 4-chlorophenol into humic acids by Horseradish ...

Electrochemical Oxidation of Chlorophenols
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 1997Electrochemical 2-chlorophenol and 2,6-dichlorophenol removal from aqueous solutions using porous carbon felt anodes was investigated. Operating variables including current input, ratio between electrode and solution volumes, and initial pollutant concentration were considered in order to determine their influence on the faradic efficiency of the ...

Lethal Body Residue of Chlorophenols and Mixtures of Chlorophenols in Benthic Organisms
Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2001The lethal body residue (LBR) of a few chlorophenol congeners were measured in the oligochaete worm Lumbriculus variegatus, and the LBR of pentachlorophenol was measured also in a midge, Chironomus riparius larvae. LBR is defined as the concentration of the compound in the organism, on molar basis, to cause death, and the LBR(50) is defined as the ...
