Urinary chlorophenols in sawmill workers

International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1987
The concentration of urinary chlorophenol was assayed for 230 sawmill workers. Information on the work tasks was obtained through questionnaires from occupational health centres. The workers were divided into three groups on the basis of the type of exposure: (1) those with skin absorption as the main route, (2) those with skin and respiratory route of

Chlorophenols in the Terrestrial Environment

1996
Chlorophenols are presently widespread in the environment. Even in the most remote natural environments, the presence of chlorophenols in both aquatic and terrestrial food chains has been recorded. These pervasive compounds have been used for a wide range of domestic, agricultural, and industrial purposes for more than 50 years.

Enzymatic Oxidative Transformation of Chlorophenol Mixtures

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2003
ABSTRACTChlorinated phenols are major industrial and agricultural xenobiotics that pollute soil and ground water. It has been shown that laccases catalyze the oxidative coupling of phenolic compounds. Therefore, the transformation of one or a mixture of several chlorinated phenols by a laccase from the fungus Trametes villosa was studied. Generally, if

Effect of vitamins on the aerobic degradation of 2-chlorophenol, 4-chlorophenol, and 4-chlorobiphenyl

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1996
The effect of vitamins on the aerobic degradation and dechlorination of 2-chlorophenol and 4-chlorophenol by Pseudomonas pickettii, strain LD1, and 4-chlorobiphenyl by Pseudomonas sp. strain CPE1 was determined. These microorganisms are capable of using the target compounds as the sole carbon and energy source, but do not need vitamins to metabolize ...

Biosorption of chlorophenols: a review

International Journal of Environment and Pollution, 2008
A review of published literature on the biosorption of chlorophenols using various biomasses is presented. Factors such as pH, time, temperature, ionic strength, type of biomass and type of chlorophenols influence the chlorophenol uptake by biomass.

Destructive Oxidation of Chlorophenols

Australian Journal of Chemistry, 1994
The destructive oxidation of pentachlorophenol in alkaline aqueous solution has been attempted with tetraoxoruthenium species as catalysts and hypochlorite as the terminal oxidant. The product solution contained no pentachlorophenol. Only traces of chlorinated compounds which could be extracted with dichloromethane were present.

Determination of chlorophenols in soil

Toxicological & Environmental Chemistry, 1999
A study on the determination of chlorophenols in soil matrices has been performed to investigate the influence of different factors, such as: model sample preparation, concentration of contaminants, type of soil matrix and ageing of the sample, on results of analysis.
