Energy Transfer between Tryptophan and Chlorophyll a of Peridinin-Chlorophyll a-Protein

Biochemie und Physiologie der Pflanzen, 1989
Summary Fluorescence lifetimes of tryptophan residues and chlorophyll a in peridinin-chlorophyll a -protein of Glenodinium sp. have been determined. The fluorescence lifetime of tryptophan residues (excitation at 292 nm) was 3.72 ns (emission monitored at 360 nm) whereas for chlorophyll a (excitation at 610 nm), it was 5.28 ns (emission at 690 ...

Chlorophyll a biosynthetic heterogeneity.

Ciba Foundation symposium, 1995
Chlorophyll a biosynthesis is presently interpreted in terms of two different biochemical pathways. According to one pathway, chlorophyll a is made via a single linear chain of reactions starting with divinylprotoporphyrin IX and ending with monovinylchlorophyll a.

Chlorophylla biosynthetic routes and chlorophylla chemical heterogeneity in plants

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1983
A six-branched chlorophyll a biosynthetic pathway instead of a four-branched pathway has been proposed as being responsible for the formation of chlorophyll a in green plants. The several biosynthetic routes that make up the pathway have been described as leading to the formation of ten chemically different groups of chlorophyll a species.

Period four oscillations in chlorophyll a fluorescence

Photosynthesis Research, 2002
The discovery of period four oscillations of the fluorescence yield under flashing light demonstrated that not only the redox state of the Photosystem II (PS II) electron acceptor Q(A), but also the oxygen evolving cycle (described by the S states) modulates the fluorescence yield of chlorophyll (Chl). The positive charges accumulated on the donor side

Cyclodextrin/chlorophyll a complexes as supramolecular photosensitizers

Bioelectrochemistry, 2007
The interactions between chlorophyll a, and three cyclodextrins, hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin heptakis(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-beta-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-gamma-cyclodextrin, were studied in aqueous solutions by means of absorption, emission and circular dichroism spectroscopy.

The oxidation of chlorophyll a in alcohols

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1968
Abstract Oxidation potentials for the chlorophyll (Chl/Chl+) couple, relative to that of the Fe2+/Fe3+ couple, were determined in methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol from the initial extent of reaction of chlorophyll with FeCl3. The presence of 4,7-dimethylphenanthroline was necessary to get sufficient oxidation of chlorophyll in isopropanol.

Crystal data on chlorophyll a

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1959
Abstract By using the hexagonal cell: a = 8.75 8 , c = 42.0 7 A., it is possible to index the eight sharp lines of the powder pattern of crystalline chlorophyll a. The cell volume, in view of the observed density of 1.079 g./cc., requires two molecules per cell.

Loop currents in chlorophyll a

Theoretica Chimica Acta, 1982
Loop currents involve the circulation of electrons (or holes) around closed conjugated-bond loops. From the length of the orbital perimeter the kinetic energy per electron can be calculated. In chlorophyll a, four electronic excitations have been analyzed, including: (1) a single positive charge (hole) circling a 19-bond orbit with a Mobius twist (this
