Quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence by quinones

IUBMB Life, 1998
AbstractQuinones caused quenching of Chl a fluorescence in native and model systems. Menadione quenched twofold the fluorescence of Chl a and BChl a in pea chloroplasts, chromatophores of purple bacteria, and liposomes at concentrations of 50‐80 μM. To obtain twofold quenching in Triton X‐100 micelles and in ethanol, the addition of 1.3 mM and 11 mM ...

An Introduction to Chlorophyll Fluorescence

2003
Photosynthesis is a physiological process that couples the energy of light to certain metabolic changes in biochemical reactions, via photochemical processes. Importantly, these metabolic changes would be endothermic in the absence of light, meaning that they would not proceed spontaneously.

Fluorescence-detected chlorophyll triplet states in chlorophyll-proteins

Journal of Molecular Structure, 1982
Abstract Chlorophyll (chl) occurs bound Co protein as discrete, well-defined complexes in photosynthetic membranes. Chlorophyll-proteins have been isolated from barley chloroplasts and chl triplet states observed at 4.2 K under continuous illumination using a fluorescence-detected zero field magnetic resonance technique.

Screening of mutants using chlorophyll fluorescence

Journal of Plant Research, 2021
Chlorophyll fluorescence has been widely used for the estimation of photosynthesis or its regulatory mechanisms. Chlorophyll fluorescence measurements are the methods with non-destructive nature and do not require contact between plant materials and fluorometers. Furthermore, the measuring process is very rapid.

Chlorophyll Fluorescence on the Fast Timescale

2018
Chlorophyll fluorescence is a rapid and non-invasive tool used for probing the activity of photosynthesis that can be used in vivo and in the field. It is highly relevant to the demands of high-throughput crop phenotyping and can be automated or manually applied.

Chlorophyll fluorescence biosensor for the detection of herbicides

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 1994
A biosensor is described for the detection of triazine and phenylurea herbicides in drinking water by kinetic measurements of endogenous chlorophyll fluorescence in isolated chloroplasts from higher plants. The pocket-size device uses a diode laser for simultaneous excitation of sample and reference channels, and photodiodes for detection of the ...

Period four oscillations in chlorophyll a fluorescence

Photosynthesis Research, 2002
The discovery of period four oscillations of the fluorescence yield under flashing light demonstrated that not only the redox state of the Photosystem II (PS II) electron acceptor Q(A), but also the oxygen evolving cycle (described by the S states) modulates the fluorescence yield of chlorophyll (Chl). The positive charges accumulated on the donor side

A non-fluorescent complex of chlorophyll a with plastocyanin

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985
A complex between chlorophyll a and plastocyanin has been prepared by dialysis of mixtures of chlorophyll in Triton X-100 micellar solution with the protein. The complex appears to contain no more than one chlorophyll per plastocyanin molecule, and is non-fluorescent, whether the protein is in the oxidized or reduced state.

In vivo analysis of chlorophyll a fluorescence induction

Photosynthesis Research, 2008
Quantitative characteristics of photosynthetic electron transport were evaluated in vivo on the basis of the multi-exponential analysis of OJIP fluorescence transients induced by saturating actinic light. The OJIP fluorescence curve F(t), measured in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii cells, was transformed into the (1 - F(O)/F(t)) x (F(V)/F(M))(-1) transient ...
