A Theory of Choice Bracketing under Risk [PDF]
Aggregating risks from multiple sources can be complex and demanding, and decision makers usually adopt heuristics to simplify the evaluation process. This paper axiomatizes two closed related and yet different heuristics, narrow bracketing and correlation neglect, by relaxing the independence axiom in the expected utility theory.

Bracketing effects on risk tolerance: Generalizability and underlying mechanisms
Research has shown that risk tolerance increases when multiple decisions and associated outcomes are presented together in a broader “bracket” rather than one at a time.

We examine experimentally how complexity affects decision-making, when individuals choose among different products with varying benefits and costs. We find that complexity in costs leads to choosing a high-benefit product, with high costs and overall ...

Dyson-Schwinger equations in the theory of computation [PDF]
Following Manin's approach to renormalization in the theory of computation, we investigate Dyson-Schwinger equations on Hopf algebras, operads and properads of flow charts, as a way of encoding self-similarity structures in the theory of algorithms ...

Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) rapidly became established as the method of choice for the production of large biomolecular ions in the gas phase. For peptides and proteins, ESI leads to the formation of multiply charged ions,

On the rates of convergence of simulation based optimization algorithms for optimal stopping problems [PDF]
In this paper we study simulation based optimization algorithms for solving discrete time optimal stopping problems. This type of algorithms became popular among practioneers working in the area of quantitative finance.

Consumer Attitude Toward the Environmental Sustainability of Grain-Free Pet Foods
This study investigated consumer knowledge and attitude toward environmental sustainability, grain-free diets (GFDs), and the influence of on-site environmental sustainability education on pet owner diet choices.

In defense of exclusionary reasons [PDF]
Exclusionary defeat is Joseph Raz’s proposal for understanding the more complex, layered structure of practical reasoning. Exclusionary reasons are widely appealed to in legal theory and consistently arise in many other areas of philosophy.

Effect of Choice Bracketing on Risk Aggregation in Repeated-Play Gambles With no Feedback
Aggregating the risk of a series of decisions reduces the overall risk compared to when each decision is considered individually—the logic behind diversified investment strategies. Most experimental research on a series of risky decisions provides participants with immediate feedback for each individual choice before presenting the subsequent gamble—a ...
