Anaesthesia for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography

Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 2011
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography is used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It is relatively more complex than routine endoscopies and requires adequate patient sedation. Furthermore the patients often have co‐morbidities. This article provides an overview of various anaesthetic drugs and the type of anaesthesiological support.

Biliary Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Gastroenterology Clinics of North America
Since inception in 1968, biliary endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has transformed into a highly effective, minimally invasive modality for the identification and treatment of a variety of biliary pathologies including benign, malignant, and iatrogenic diseases.

Diagnostic Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Endoscopy, 1998
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is still a gold standard in the diagnostic work-up of the pancreaticobiliary system. However, the problem of post-ERCP pancreatitis has not yet been solved. Since the appearance of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), there has been a trend for it to replace ERCP as an imaging tool ...

Complications of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography

Techniques in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 2012
Complications occur after 5% to 10% of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and may range from minimal to severe and life threatening. Risk factors for post-ERCP pancreatitis include patient- as well as procedure-related variables, placing a premium on patient selection as well as ...

The Future of Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Gastroenterology, 2017
Since its introduction nearly 50 years ago, there has been considerable evolution in the practice and performance of ERCP. On the one hand, therapeutic ERCP has supplanted surgical and percutaneous radiologic procedures to emerge as the dominant method for pancreaticobiliary intervention.

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography for Cholangiocarcinoma

Clinics in Liver Disease, 2014
Cholangiocarcinoma is an increasingly common malignancy. Patients usually present with biliary obstruction. The role of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is almost exclusively for drainage of the biliary tree, although diagnostic ERCP is still performed at the time of drainage to obtain a tissue diagnosis using brush cytology and ...

Diagnostic Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Endoscopy, 2000
The importance of diagnostic endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERCP) has dramatically decreased owing to the development of less invasive techniques such as ultrasonography, computed tomography, endoscopic ultrasonography, and finally magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP).

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in children

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1987
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a universally used diagnostic and therapeutic modality in adults with pancreaticobiliary tract disease; its use in children with similar problems has been limited. We have performed ERCP procedures in 39 children and adolescents (aged 6 months to 18 years; mean 12.5 years), using the standard ...

Diagnostic Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Endoscopy, 2001
Since the introduction of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), the focus in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has shifted from diagnosis to treatment - a change that has organizational implications in relation to teaching and providing access to ERCP.
