Association of metabolomic aging acceleration and body mass index phenotypes with mortality and obesity‐related morbidities

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 4, April 2025.
Metabolomic aging acceleration may help stratify mortality and obesity‐related morbidities risk across different BMI categories. Weight management should address Individuals with overweight or obesity, regardless of metabolomic aging, while delaying metabolomic aging is crucial for all metabolomically older groups, including those with normal weight ...

A novel framework to build saliva‐based DNA methylation biomarkers: Quantifying systemic chronic inflammation as a case study

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 4, April 2025.
In this study, we describe a novel multi‐omics framework to train saliva‐based DNA methylation (DNAm) biomarkers that are reproducible and biologically interpretable. By leveraging a reliability dataset with replicates across tissues, we demonstrate knowledge transfer from blood DNAm to saliva DNAm data using DNAm proxies of blood proteins (EpiScores).

Epidemiology of diagnostic errors in pediatric emergency departments using electronic triggers

open access: yesAcademic Emergency Medicine, Volume 32, Issue 3, Page 226-245, March 2025.
Abstract Objectives We applied three electronic triggers to study frequency and contributory factors of missed opportunities for improving diagnosis (MOIDs) in pediatric emergency departments (EDs): return visits within 10 days resulting in admission (Trigger 1), care escalation within 24 h of ED presentation (Trigger 2), and death within 24 h of ED ...

Granulocyte and Monocyte Adsorption Therapy in Patients With Sepsis: A Feasibility Study

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 49, Issue 5, Page 852-863, May 2025.
The median SOFA score decreased from 10 to 4 after 7 days. Decreased circulatory and renal SOFA scores were characteristic. Granulocytes, mainly neutrophils, were adsorbed, and the neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio significantly improved. The median APACHE II score was 27, and the 28‐day mortality rate was 7.8%.
