Abstract: Primary synovial chondromatosis (PSC) is a rare, benign neoplastic disorder affecting otherwise healthy joints. It is characterized by formation of cartilaginous nodules in the synovial lining. These nodules can detach from the synovium and evolve to numerous intra-articular loose bodies, which may be calcified or not.

ABSTRACT: Two patients were evaluated for a complaint of long-standing hip pain. No etiology of their progressively disabling symptoms was found by routine diagnostic studies. Hip arthrography and arthrotomography in each case, however, demonstrated multiple intraarticular filling defects consistent with nonradiopaque loose bodies.

[Synovial chondromatosis].

Zhongguo yi xue ke xue yuan xue bao. Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae, 1990
24 cases of synovial chondromatosis were examined including 16 males and 8 females of 22-64 yrs of age. The lesions were located in the knee (16), hip (4) and elbow (4) joints. All cases were treated surgically. The number of cartilaginous nodules and joint mice removed from each joint ranged from 2 to 689.
