Chondrosarcoma is the second most common primary bone tumor, with >90% of cases representing the primary conventional subtype. In addition to arising de novo, conventional chondrosarcoma can arise secondary to a benign underlying lesion, such as enchondroma or osteochondroma.

Chondrosarcoma has a high propensity to metastasize and responds poorly to chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The enzymatic activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is very important in chondrosarcoma metastasis.

Chondrosarcoma is a malignant cartilage-forming tumor that affects predominently the middle-aged population. There are three histologic grades, but differentiation of Grade I tumors from enchondromas can be difficult. The measurement of polypoidy (augmented chromosomal content per cell) appears to offer a method of segregation of benign from low-grade ...

Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma.
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1988The cases of forty-six patients who had dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma were reviewed. Two groups were identified: one in which a low-grade malignant chondrosarcoma was the precursor lesion and one in which a moderate to high-grade malignant chondrosarcoma was the precursor lesion.

Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma: An aggressive variant of chondrosarcoma
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2014Dedifferentiated chondrosarcomas are a rare and aggressive subtype of chondrosarcoma with a bimorphic pattern on histopathology. Rib is a rare site of dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma. Diagnosis of this subtype preoperatively can be challenging. Treatment options for dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma are limited because they are chemoresistant, and ...

AbstractA case of a low grade chondrosarcoma of the cricoid cartilage which had been diagnosed intially as a chondroma is presented. The tumour reurred twice after limited surgical resections. Total laryngectomy was inecvitable due to near total involvement of the cricoid cartilage and subsequent histological examination revealed a low grade ...
