Glycogen in lens of tunicate tadpole (Chordata: Ascidiacea)

Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1972
AbstractThe larval eye (cerebral ocellus) of an ascidian, Ciona intestinalis, possesses a lens of three cells: in the center of each is a large granular body. Several lines of evidence indicate that the lens bodies are composed of beta particles of glycogen.

An annotated checklist of Thaliaceans (Chordata: Tunicates)

Marine Biodiversity, 2017
A checklist of the Class Thaliacea is presented after an extensive literature review. Synonymies, type locality, diagnostic characters of different life cycle stages and a summary of worldwide distribution are presented for the maximum number of available species possible. A total of 106 species names are listed, and among them, 81 species in 25 genera

Chordata: Thaliacea

2017
This chapter describes the taxonomy of Thaliacea, a class of the subphylum Tunicata encompassing pelagic organisms that, as all the other tunicates, have a body covered by a transparent cellulosic tunic. Thaliaceans are ubiquitous and they are common from coastal waters to the open ocean at all depths.

Seasonal and pharmaceutical‐induced changes in selenoprotein glutathione peroxidase 4 activity in the reproductive dynamics of the soil biosentinel Podarcis sicula (Chordata: Reptilia)

Molecular Reproduction and Development, 2019
There is rising concern for the interaction of environmental contaminants with brain transcriptome and the potential effect on reproductive processes.

On the Ancestral Form of the Chordata

Journal of Cell Science, 1883
ABSTRACT An all important question was raised in biology when the Law of Development came to be recognised as the only true explanation of the facts as they lie before us. This was the question: “From what invertebrate stock are the Vertebrata evolved, and which amongst the Invertebrates at present living approaches most closely in its ...

Origin of Chordata and the “Upside-Down Theory”

Russian Journal of Marine Biology, 2008
The hypothesis of dorso-ventral axis inversion in Chordata based on recent molecular biology data is discussed from the viewpoint of evolutionary morphology. It is supposed that, as a result of such an inversion, the nerve cord located ventrally in most Invertebrata found itself on the dorsal side of Chordata.

Multiple forms of phosphofructokinase in animals from the phylum chordata

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1976
Abstract 1. 1. Several multiple forms of phosphofructokinase have been found in striated muscle, cardiac muscle, brain and liver of animals from the Phylum Chordata. 2. 2. PFK forms of lower electrophoretic mobility occur in mammalian striated muscle, while those of liver show the greatest electrophoretic mobility. 3. 3.

Chordata: Fish eggs and larvae

2017
This chapter describes the taxonomy of fish eggs and larvae. Most fish eggs and larvae are planktonic, and are commonly found in plankton net tows. Collectively these fish stages are referred to as ichthyoplankton. The chapter covers their life cycle, ecology, and general morphology.

Ascidian (Chordata, Ascidiacea) diversity in the Red Sea

Marine Biodiversity, 2012
Although the Red Sea is considered as a center of endemism and a ‘hotspot’ of biodiversity, the ascidian fauna (Chordata, Ascidiacea) of the region has been poorly studied. The current study provides a review of the literature concerning the ascidian fauna of the Red Sea, including the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez, an updated species list based ...
