Chorioamnionitis

open access: yesJournal of Chemotherapy, 2007
Chorioamnionitis is an inflammation of the placental membranes induced by microorganisms which reach the endometrial cavity from the vagina and uterine cervix. Premature labor frequently depends on infections. In patients with premature rupture of membranes (PROM) antibiotic treatment can prevent intra-amniotic inflammation if it is absent at admission.

Ureaplasma Urealyticum Chorioamnionitis

open access: yesAustralian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1994
EDITORIAL COMMENT: We accepted this paper for publication to remind readers that Ureaplasma urealyticum, which is a common vaginal commensal, can be associated with and apparently the cause of chorioamnionitis, premature labour, premature rupture of the membranes and intrauterine infection.

Candida tropicalis chorioamnionitis

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1995
A case of Candida tropicalis chorioamnionitis at 25 weeks' gestation is presented, and the literature is reviewed. This is the first report, to our knowledge, of C. tropicalis diagnosed antenatally with confirmed congenital infection.

Chronic chorioamnionitis displays distinct alterations of the amniotic fluid proteome [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pathology, 2011
Acute chorioamnionitis of infectious origin and chronic chorioamnionitis of immunological origin are two major placental lesions of spontaneous preterm birth with elevated amniotic fluid interleukin-6 and CXCL10 concentrations, respectively.

Chorioamnionitis

MCN: The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing, 2013
Chorioamnionitis most often occurs during labor, affecting as many as 10% of laboring women. When intrapartum chorioamnionitis occurs, women are at peripartal risk for endometritis, cesarean birth, and postpartum hemorrhage; and the neonate is at significant risk for sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory distress, and death.

Significance of chorioamnionitis

Early Human Development, 1992
In preterm deliveries, we have reported a high incidence (30-50%) of histologic chorioamnionitis (CAM) in the placenta. There is little evidence about the effects of CAM on preterm infants. We investigated the levels of complements and cytokines in the cord blood, the pathological nature of the placenta, the L/S ratio of gastric and tracheal aspirate ...

Acute Chorioamnionitis

Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America, 1989
In summary, acute intra-amniotic infection or chorioamnionitis is a relatively common complication of pregnancy and may be associated with significant maternal and neonatal morbidity. Maternal mortality is rare, as is mortality in term infants. Mortality in premature infants is probably related to prematurity itself rather than infection per se ...

CHORIOAMNIONITIS AND ENDOMETRITIS

Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, 1997
Chorioamnionitis complicates 1% to 2% of all pregnancies and may affect 10% of women with certain risk factors. Intraamnionic infection may result in devastating morbidity for both the fetus and the mother. Also, chorioamnionitis is associated with higher cesarean section rates. As demonstrated earlier, endometritis is a common complication of cesarean

Early neonatal brain injury in histologic chorioamnionitis

open access: yesJournal of Pediatrics, 2001
The relation between clinical or histologic chorioamnionitis and early neonatal adverse neurologic outcome was investigated (n = 483). Histologic, but not clinical, evidence of chorioamnionitis was found to be a significant predictor of periventricular ...

Neurodevelopmental outcome in preterm histological chorioamnionitis

open access: yesEarly Human Development, 2009
The role of histological chorioamnionitis in neonatal neurological outcome is not yet fully understood. The present study aimed to assess the neurodevelopmental outcome of preterm babies born after pregnancy complicated by histological chorioamnionitis ...
