Chorioamnionitis and bacterial vaginosis

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1993
An improved understanding of bacterial vaginosis and of clinical intraamniotic infection and histologic chorioamnionitis has produced data showing strong associations among these conditions. It has recently been shown that the microorganisms in both bacterial vaginosis and clinical intraamniotic infection are similar, of which anaerobes, Gardnerella ...

Chorioamnionitis and prematurity: a critical review

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2012
Chorioamnionitis is the inflammatory response to an acute inflammation of the membranes and chorion of the placenta. We provide a critical review of the relationship between chorioamnionitis and the risk of prematurity and adverse maternal-fetal outcome.

Prostaglandins, chorioamnionitis and preterm labour

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1987
Summary. The production of prostaglandin E (PGE) and leukotriene B4 (LTB4) by amnion was measured in vitro in 12 women delivered after spontaneous preterm labour and in 15 women delivered after spontaneous labour at term. The placenta and fetal membranes were examined histologically in all cases. PGE output (fmol/mg dry weight/2 h) in the amnions from

Chorioamnionitis and Intraamniotic Infection

Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1993
Intraamniotic infection is a common (2-4%) event in labor. The predictors of IAI include preterm labor or rupture of membranes, abnormal vaginal flora (e.g., GBS, sexually transmitted disease, bacterial vaginosis), obstetric manipulations (e.g., vaginal exams, internal fetal monitoring) in the presence of ruptured membranes, and diminished host ...

The Fetus at Risk: Chorioamnionitis

2012
Infection and inflammatory injury are the major threats during pregnancy. The extraembryonic tissues play important roles in protecting the fetus. From 10–12 days post conception (p.c.), yolk sack and allantoic vessels provide nutrition to the embryo. By 20 days conception p.c. fetal vessels are discernible in developing villi.

Chorioamnionitis

The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 1986
Chorioamnionitis is both a clinical and a histopathologic diagnosis. The latter may be clinically silent, but it commonly accompanies reproductive casualty and premature birth. Satisfactory delineation of its pathogenesis is elusive. Detailed histologic study indicates that endometrial inflammation usually precedes that of the membranes.
