Management of acute chorioamnionitis

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1980
Acute chorioamnionitis has been recognized as a major threat to both mother and fetus, but there has been little study of its therapy. On this service, the plan of management consists of parenteral, broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy and prompt action to effect delivery.

Cytokine production in chorioamnionitis

Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 2000
Lymphohematopoietic cytokines play a significant role in many biological mechanisms including a number of reproductive processes such as ovulation, implantation, placentation, cervical dilation and parturition. Recent experiments have suggested that cytokines play a crucial role in the mechanisms of preterm labor and delivery, which are the leading ...

Chorioamnionitis due to Leptotrichia trevisanii

Anaerobe, 2018
Very long fusiform gram-negative bacilli were observed after Gram staining of amniotic fluid from a 36-year-old multigravida woman. At 24 hours, pure, abundant growth of smooth, gray, only slightly convex catalase-positive and oxidase-negative colonies measuring about 2 mm were observed. Growth was greater in anaerobic than in aerobic conditions.

Chorioamnionitis and bacterial vaginosis

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1993
An improved understanding of bacterial vaginosis and of clinical intraamniotic infection and histologic chorioamnionitis has produced data showing strong associations among these conditions. It has recently been shown that the microorganisms in both bacterial vaginosis and clinical intraamniotic infection are similar, of which anaerobes, Gardnerella ...

Does histologic chorioamnionitis correspond to clinical chorioamnionitis?

The Journal of reproductive medicine, 2008
To evaluate the degree to which histologic chorioamnionitis, a frequent finding in placentas submitted for histopathologic evaluation, correlates with clinical indicators of infection in the mother.A retrospective review was performed on 52 cases with a histologic diagnosis of acute chorioamnionitis from 2,051 deliveries at University Hospital, Newark,

Chorioamnionitis.

The Journal of reproductive medicine, 1977
Chorioamnionitis is an inflammatory reaction occurring in the fetal membranes of the placenta. It is usually associated with premature rupture of the membranes, whether spontaneous or artificial. Rupture of the fetal membranes sets off a time bomb that threatens both maternal and fetal welfare.

Chorioamnionitis and Intraamniotic Infection

Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1993
Intraamniotic infection is a common (2-4%) event in labor. The predictors of IAI include preterm labor or rupture of membranes, abnormal vaginal flora (e.g., GBS, sexually transmitted disease, bacterial vaginosis), obstetric manipulations (e.g., vaginal exams, internal fetal monitoring) in the presence of ruptured membranes, and diminished host ...
