A Case–Control Study of Chorioamnionic Infection and Histologic Chorioamnionitis in Prematurity

New England Journal of Medicine, 1988
To study the role of infection in prematurity, we studied the demographic and obstetrical characteristics, chorioamnionic cultures, and placental histologic features of women who delivered prematurely and compared these findings with those in women who delivered at term.

Chorioamnionitis: A harbinger of dystocia

International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 1993
The impact of chorioamnionitis on the course of labor is controversial. Some clinicians believe the infection has stimulatory effects, whereas others suspect inhibitory influences. Two hundred sixty-six pregnancies with chorioamnionitis requiring labor stimulation with oxytocin were matched to uninfected women for maternal age, race, parity ...

Cytokine production in chorioamnionitis

Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 2000
Lymphohematopoietic cytokines play a significant role in many biological mechanisms including a number of reproductive processes such as ovulation, implantation, placentation, cervical dilation and parturition. Recent experiments have suggested that cytokines play a crucial role in the mechanisms of preterm labor and delivery, which are the leading ...

Hydrocortisone for Preventing Mortality and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia in Preterm Infants with or without Chorioamnionitis Exposure: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials

American Journal of Perinatology, 2020
Objective This study sought to assess whether infants exposed to chorioamnionitis are the optimal population to benefit the most from early postnatal hydrocortisone delivery in preventing bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). This meta-analysis was conducted

Association of histological and clinical chorioamnionitis with perinatal and neonatal outcome

Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2019

Chorioamnionitis and bacterial vaginosis

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1993
An improved understanding of bacterial vaginosis and of clinical intraamniotic infection and histologic chorioamnionitis has produced data showing strong associations among these conditions. It has recently been shown that the microorganisms in both bacterial vaginosis and clinical intraamniotic infection are similar, of which anaerobes, Gardnerella ...

Re-evaluation of chorioamnionitis and funisitis with a special reference to subacute chorioamnionitis

Human Pathology, 2002
Our purpose is to prove that prolonged inflammation of the chorionic plate, which we have termed subacute chorioamnionitis (SCAM), is a distinctive entity and should be differentiated from acute chorioamnionitis (ACAM) because it is an excellent prognostic indicator of chronic lung disease (CLD), including Wilson-Mikity syndrome (WMS). Ninety singleton

Chorioamnionitis and prematurity: a critical review

The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, 2012
Chorioamnionitis is the inflammatory response to an acute inflammation of the membranes and chorion of the placenta. We provide a critical review of the relationship between chorioamnionitis and the risk of prematurity and adverse maternal-fetal outcome.

Chorioamnionitis and the prognosis for term infants

Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1999
To assess the effects of clinical chorioamnionitis and labor complications on short-term neonatal morbidity, including seizures. This was a retrospective cohort study of all live-born term infants who weighed more than 2500 g delivered between 1988 and 1997 at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, Texas.

Prostaglandins, chorioamnionitis and preterm labour

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1987
Summary. The production of prostaglandin E (PGE) and leukotriene B4 (LTB4) by amnion was measured in vitro in 12 women delivered after spontaneous preterm labour and in 15 women delivered after spontaneous labour at term. The placenta and fetal membranes were examined histologically in all cases. PGE output (fmol/mg dry weight/2 h) in the amnions from
