Effects of tree age and stand thinning related variations in balsam fir secondary compounds on spruce budworm Choristoneura fumiferana development, growth and food utilization

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, 2011
The effect of tannins and monoterpenes on the development, mortality and food utilization of spruce budworm Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) was investigated under laboratory conditions using an artificial diet.

Transcription of antifreeze protein genes in Choristoneura fumiferana

Insect Molecular Biology, 2007
Abstract Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) are encoded by approximately 17 genes in the spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana . Northern analysis using 6 different cDNA probes showed isoform‐specific patterns that varied during development.

Identification and sequence analyses of the granulin gene of Choristoneura fumiferana granulovirus

Archives of Virology, 1997
The nucleotide sequence of the granulin gene of Choristoneura fumiferana granulovirus (CfGV) was determined. The gene encodes a protein of 248 amino acids with a predicted Mr of 29.299 kDa. The granulin genes of Trichoplusia ni, Pieris brassicae and Cryptophlebia leucotreta granuloviruses showed homologies ranging from 76.7-80.5% for nucleotide ...

Choristoneura fumiferana granulovirus: sequence analysis and 5′ characterization of ORF891

Archives of Virology, 1999
A gene located immediately upstream of the granulin gene of Choristoneura fumiferana (ChfuGV) granulovirus was identified, sequenced and named ORF891. The determined, putative open reading frame (ORF) of 891 bp encodes an estimated 34.6 kDa protein. The 5' end transcript of the gene was mapped and analysed.

Heavy polyribosomes extraction from lepidopteran cells: Choristoneura fumiferana

Insect Biochemistry, 1988
Abstract Heavy polyribosomes of invertebrate cells, Choristoneura fumiferana (Cf124) could be routinely obtained when cells were previously treated with cycloheximide (0.025 μg/ml) 2 h before extraction.

Effect of a Rugulosin-producing Endophyte in Picea glauca on Choristoneura fumiferana

Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2008
Disease-free second instar Choristoneura fumiferana (eastern spruce budworm) were placed on trees infected with a rugulosin-producing needle endophyte in two experiments. They were allowed to grow to sixth instar when survivors were collected. First, by using 3-yr old trees, a comparison was made of budworm growth on infected and uninfected trees.

Lethal effects of pyrethrins on spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana)

Journal of Forestry Research, 2010
Spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens)) is one of the most serious forest insect pests in North America. Laboratory bioassays were performed to determine the lethal doses and lethal time of pyrethrins (a botanical insecticide) on 4th instar larvae of spruce budworm using larval dip assay.

Chromosomal proteins from the spruce budworm Choristoneura fumiferana

Insect Biochemistry, 1978
Abstract The electrophoretic properties of histones and non-histone chromosomal proteins (NHCP) were examined in second instar larvae of the spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana. The five main histone fractions, typical of most organisms, were present. Subfractions were not observed for the very-lysine-rich F1 histone. By contrast to the histones,

Population Dynamics of the Spruce Budworm Choristoneura Fumiferana

Ecological Monographs, 1984
Using the latest observations, experiments, and theoretical studies, I have reanalyzed spruce budworm data from the Green River Project, and now propose a new interpretation of the population dynamics of the species. Spruce budworm populations in the Province of New Brunswick have been oscillating more or less periodically for the last two centuries ...

Nutritional physiology of the eastern spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana, infected with Nosema fumiferanae, and interactions with dietary nitrogen

Oecologia, 1988
Female eastern spruce budworm larvae, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clemens) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), inoculated with a medium lethal spore dosage of the microsporidium Nosema fumiferanae (Thomson) exhibited significant reductions in consumptive index (CI), nitrogen consumptive index (NCI), relative growth rate (RGR), and gross (ECI) and net (ECD ...
