Correlation between chemical composition and 90Sr concentrations in groundwater of the Chornobyl NPP industrial site

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2021
The volumetric activity of the divalent 90Sr ion in groundwater at the Chornobyl NPP industrial site ranges from 1 to 2 to 400-3800 Bq/l. The increase in groundwater radionuclides concentrations is associated with the reduced sorption properties of local sediments, which affect the migration capacity of radionuclides in the environment. The decrease of

TRACES OF 14C EMISSIONS FOR THE OPERATION PERIOD OF TWO UKRAINIAN NPPS: RIVNE AND CHORNOBYL

Radiocarbon, 2023
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was a comparative retrospective assessment of radiocarbon (14C) as a tracer, caused by operational emissions of Rivne and Chornobyl nuclear power plants (NPPs), which are equipped with different types of nuclear reactors. For this purpose, 14C was studied in annual tree rings of pine taken at a distance of 1.5 km southwest

Factors influencing the increased 90Sr radioisotope migration in highly alkaline groundwater at Chornobyl NPP site

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity
This paper analyses the formation of high Sr2+ concentration in strong alkaline (pH = 9.5-12.5) groundwater using data of the 27 years of observations around the destroyed Chernobyl NPP Unit 4. It appears that the formation of strong alkaline groundwater in different monitoring wells is consistent with the distribution of 90Sr, pH and main ions.

The Nature of Contamination of the Area in the Nearest Vicinity of Chornobyl NPP Destroyed Unit

9th ASME International Conference on Radioactive Waste Management and Environmental Remediation: Volumes 1, 2, and 3, 2003
A territory around the destroyed by the 1986 accident 4-th unit of Chornobyl NPP has been contaminated severely by radioactive materials pollution from the damaged unit. During the stage of accident consequences mitigation, the radioactive materials in a form of fragments of building constructions, fuel elements, graphite cladding, and upper layer of ...

Features of pine tree’s growth and morphogenesis in the radiation effect zone of the Chornobyl NPP accident

Naukovij vìsnik Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu bìoresursìv ì prirodokoristuvannâ Ukraïni. Serìâ Bìologìâ, bìotehnologìâ, ekologìâ, 2018
Forest plantations can hold up to 90 % of radioactive precipitation in the conditions of radiation accidents. As a result, plants can obtain high doses of both external and internal irradiation by ionizing radiation. It is established that conifers are much more active accumulate 137 Cs and 90 Sr than deciduous trees.
