Peripapillary Choroidal Vascularity Index and Microstructure of Parapapillary Atrophy
To investigate the association between the microstructure of β-zone parapapillary atrophy (βPPA) and choroidal vascularity index (CVI) determined by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in glaucomatous eyes.A total of 160 eyes of 160 primary open-angle glaucoma patients with βPPA were included. Total choroidal area (TCA), luminal area (

Molecular mechanism of synergistic antagonism of ANGPTL4 and VEGF by ginsenoside Rg3 combined with ranibizumab, regulating the NRP/RhoA pathway to inhibit macular edema. ABSTRACT Aims This study investigated the molecular mechanisms by which ginsenoside Rg3 combined with ranibizumab alleviates diabetic macular edema (DME), focusing on antagonizing ...

Techniques for subretinal injections in animals
Abstract Subretinal injections are not commonly performed during clinical treatment of animals but are frequently used in laboratory animal models to assess therapeutic efficacy and safety of gene and cell therapy products. Veterinary ophthalmologists are often employed to perform the injections in the laboratory animal setting, due to knowledge of ...

Effects of metformin on retinoblastoma growth in vitro and in vivo [PDF]
Recent studies suggest that the anti-diabetic drug metformin may reduce the risk of cancer and have anti-proliferative effects for some but not all cancers. In this study, we examined the effects of metformin on human retinoblastoma cell proliferation in

Women in space: A review of known physiological adaptations and health perspectives
Abstract Exposure to the spaceflight environment causes adaptations in most human physiological systems, many of which are thought to affect women differently from men. Since only 11.5% of astronauts worldwide have been female, these issues are largely understudied.

An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.
