Fabrication of a uniform chromate conversion coating on Zn alloy for improved corrosion resistance in humid environments [PDF]

open access: greenScientific Reports, 2023
We developed a facile method to produce a uniform chromate conversion (CC) coating on zinc alloy-plated steel substrates (ZS). When an acidic CC solution is applied to ZS (C-ZS), zinc is dissolved and chromium ions are reduced to form a chromate coating.

A Chromate-Free and Convenient Route to Fabricate Thin and Compact Conversion Coating for Corrosion Protection on LZ91 Magnesium Alloy [PDF]

open access: goldNanomaterials, 2022
This study characterizes and determines the corrosion resistance of Mn-Ce conversion coated LZ91 magnesium alloy that undergoes pretreatments. It is challenging to process large and curved workpieces in the industry because the geometric shapes are ...

Scanning and transmission electron microscopy examinations of composite hybrid chromate and chromate phosphate conversion coatings exposed in hot 100% relative humidity environments

open access: diamondHybrid Advances, 2023
Conversion coatings are sine qua non in the finishing of aluminium alloys. They may be put into service without coating of paints. However, for aesthetics in architectural applications, paint overcoat is common. Chromate phosphate coatings are relatively

Non‐chromate conversion process for zinc coating with durable hydrophobicity and enhanced corrosion resistance

open access: goldBiosurface and Biotribology, 2022
A Zn‐based coating with durable hydrophobicity and good corrosion resistance was formed on a mild steel substrate, which involves electroplating Zn from a non‐aqueous electrolyte, followed by passivation in an oleic acid (OA) solution.

Characterization of Chromate Conversion Coating Formation and Breakdown Using Electrode Arrays [PDF]

open access: bronze, 2002
Chromate conversion coating (CCC) formation and breakdown was examined using 25 element Al wire electrode arrays. Arrays were interrogated using a multichannel analyzer capable of separately recording currents from each electrode.

Effects of Chromate and Chromate Conversion Coatings on Corrosion of Aluminum Alloy 2024-T3 [PDF]

open access: green, 2001
Various effects of chromate conversion coatings (CCCs) and chromate in solution on the corrosion of AA2024-T3 and pure Al are studied in this work. Raman spectroscopy was used to investigate the nature of chromate in CCCs through a comparison with the ...

Chromate conversion coatings and their current application

open access: greenMetalurgija, 2016
This paper describes formation, composition and possible production technologies of application chromate coatings. Summation of common examples of applications of these coatings in corrosion protection of metals and alloys is provided. Individual chromate coatings are divided by their dominant anions either with CrVI or CrIII.

Chromate-free corrosion resistant conversion coatings for aluminum alloys [PDF]

open access: green, 1995
Inorganic polycrystalline hydrotalcite, Li{sub 2}[Al{sub 2}(OH){sub 6}]{sub 2}{center_dot}CO{sub 3}{center_dot}3H{sub 2}O, coatings can be formed on aluminum and aluminum alloys by exposure to alkaline lithium carbonate solutions. This process is conducted using methods similar to traditional chromate conversion coating procedures, but does not use or ...
