Progress in eco-friendly aerospace coatings: the future beyond chromates

open access: yesJournal of Electrochemical Science and Engineering
Aluminium alloys have a good strength-to-weight ratio and low density, but they are not impervious to corrosion. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate their corrosion performance in the atmospheric environment.

Dehydration-Induced Loss of Corrosion Protection Properties in Chromate Conversion Coatings on Aluminum Alloy 2024-T3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
It is well known that chromate conversion coatings (CCCs) exhibit a prompt loss in corrosion resistance when exposed to moderately elevated temperatures (60-100°C).

Enhanced Removal of Hexavalent Chromium From Aqueous Solutions Using Locally Activated Saudi Bentonite Clay

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Heavy metal contamination, particularly from chromium, poses significant health risks and environmental challenges due to its prevalence in industrial effluents. This study investigates the effectiveness of activated bentonite clay sourced from Saudi Arabian deposits for the removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) in aqueous environments.

Multifunctional SnO2/Perovskite Interface Engineering for Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 46, December 11, 2025.
Mobile ions and hydroxyl groups are eliminated from the surface of tin oxide layers by utilizing the hydrolysis of aluminum chloride. Meanwhile, an aluminum oxide passivation layer is constructed during the annealing process via the chemical reaction related to the resultant aluminum complexes.

Transglutaminase‐2 Promotes Microglial Synaptic Phagocytosis and Ameliorates Epileptic Seizures by Inhibiting ABCA1 Ubiquitination

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 31, Issue 12, December 2025.
Our study reveals that Transglutaminase‐2 functions as a key endogenous suppressor of seizure susceptibility. It mediates this effect by promoting microglial phagocytosis of synapses through the inhibition of ABCA1 ubiquitination and subsequent increase in its protein stability.

Formation Mechanism of Two‐Layered AlO(OH) Films on Aluminum Alloys via the Steam Coating Process

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 22, November 22, 2025.
The mechanism of AlO (OH) film formation on Al alloys in a steam atmosphere using a new surface treatment technology, steam coating, is investigated. Liquid phase subcritical water in the autoclave promotes film formation. Furthermore, the two‐layered structure of the film originates from ion diffusion of OH− and Al3+ within the film and crystal ...
