Evaluation of longitudinal chromatic dispersion

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1990
The relationship between changes in the refractive index along a fiber and chromatic dispersion is investigated theoretically. The variance of the chromatic dispersion along a fiber is approximately proportional to that of longitudinal structural fiber parameters. To control the dispersion to within +or-1 ps/km/nm, theoretical results indicate that the

Simplified Chromatic Dispersion Model Applied to Ultrawide Optical Spectra for 60 GHz Radio-Over-Fiber Systems

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
Radio-over-fiber systems can be harnessed to generate millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequencies, but the optical impairments such as optical noise, chromatic dispersion, and nonlinearity can degrade the quality of the generated heterodyne signals.

Employing dispersion-flattened fiber for chromatic dispersion measurement

Optical Engineering, 2006
A new technique for measuring the accumulated chromatic dispersion (CD) in single-mode fiber (SMF) is presented. The technique uses the ratio of the beating power between pump and probe signals and the beating power between probe signal and the four-wave mixing (FWM) conjugated signal.

Chromatic dispersion compensators via highly dispersive photonic crystals

Journal of Applied Physics, 2005
We calculated the phase index np, group index ng, and chromatic dispersion D from photonic band structures in two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals consisting of triangular-arrayed cylindrical rods. We found that both the np and ng increase rapidly as the frequency of a propagating electromagnetic wave approaches the gap-band edges due to Bragg ...

Chromatic Dispersion Dependence of GAWBS Noise

2020 Opto-Electronics and Communications Conference (OECC), 2020
We describe the chromatic dispersion dependence of GAWBS-noise compensation with pilot tone. We clarified experimentally that the group delay between the signal and pilot tone should be less than a half-period of GAWBS noise mode.

Polarization mode dispersion analysis in fibre chromatic dispersion compensators

OFC/IOOC . Technical Digest. Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 1999, and the International Conference on Integrated Optics and Optical Fiber Communication, 2003
Analysis of polarization-mode dispersion in linearly chirped fiber chromatic dispersion compensators has been carried out with several types of fibers. The importance of fiber birefringence as well as fabrication process has been pointed out.

Chromatic dispersion monitoring in optical systems

2016 IEEE International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICETECH), 2016
In this paper, we have to demonstrate the chromatic dispersion [CD] monitoring by a differential phase shift method using Kerr phase interrogator. Kerr phase interrogator, which investigates the phase shift between two sinusoidally modulated optical signals utilizing Kerr effect that are carried by two different laser wavelengths.

PMD-insensitive chromatic dispersion monitoring

31st European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC 2005), 2005
This paper investigates the influence of PMD on the measurement of chromatic dispersion (CD), proposes and experimentally demonstrates a PMD-insensitive CD monitoring technique using the optically sideband filtering and RF power ratio detection. (2 pages)
