Benzoyl‐Xanthenoxanthenes: Versatile Chromophores for Light‐Engaging Applications

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Oxidatively stable benzoyl‐fused peri‐xanthenoxanthene ribbons with NIR emission were synthesized. Their good spectral overlap enabled cascaded Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) antennae in a nematic liquid crystal phase, achieving directional energy transfer.

Switchable Thermal Mid‐IR Conducting Polymer Antenna Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents switchable mid‐infrared plasmonic resonances in PEDOT antenna arrays. Their optical extinction peaks can be reversibly switched ‘OFF’ and ‘ON’ by tuning the polaronic charge carrier concentration via the polymer's redox state, offering modulation of optical responses in the thermal mid‐infrared range including around 10 µm ...

The Application of Aluminium Powder as an Accumulation Medium of Mercury from Air

open access: yesAtmosphere
A gaseous elemental mercury (Hg0) sampler was developed for the assessment of mercury (Hg) pollution from the air and utilised aluminium (Al) powder as the accumulation medium. The Hg sampler is presented as an alternative cost-effective sorbent that can

Recurrent meningitis in a case of congenital anterior sacral meningocele and agenesis of sacral and coccygeal vertebrae Meningite recorrente em um paciente com meningocele sacral anterior e agenesia sacral e coccigea

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 1995
A rare case of recurrent meningitis due to congenital anterior sacral meningocele and agenesis of the sacral and coccygeal vertebrae is described. An autosomal dominant inheritance is demonstrated for lower cord malformation, and environmental factors ...

N‐heterocyclic Carbenes as Adhesion Promoters on Aluminum Alloy 6061

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
N‐heterocyclic carbenes as novel non‐toxic surface primers for aluminum alloys for better adhesive bonding, because strong adhesive bonding shouldn't come at the cost of poisoning the human body. The impact of NHC functionalization on adhesive joint strength and durability is also evaluated using a single‐lap‐shear test, following continuous exposure ...
