Natural Resources and Political Patronage in Africa: An Ethnicity Level Analysis

open access: yesReview of Development Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate the effect of resource discoveries on ethnicity‐level political patronage in Africa using a large geospatial dataset of 254 ethnic groups in 15 countries over the period 1960–2004. We find that the first (or single first) resource discovery in a virgin ethnic homeland increases the share of cabinet posts of that ethnicity.

Observation of elastic anomalies driven by coexisting dynamical spin Jahn-Teller effect and dynamical molecular spin state in paramagnetic phase of the frustrated MgCr$_2$O$_4$$

open access: yes, 2012
Ultrasound velocity measurements of magnesium chromite spinel MgCr$_2$O$_4$ reveal elastic anomalies in the paramagnetic phase that are characterized as due to geometrical frustration.

New Zealand's Second Meteorite: Makarewa (find, L4, S5, W2)

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 1, March 2026.
One of the most remarkable discoveries of a meteorite in New Zealand was that of Makarewa. Discovered in 1879, Makarewa is a ‘find’ that was uncovered a metre below the surface of a clay bank during excavation works for a train line in the southern South Island.

Reconstructing Late Pleistocene to Prehistorical Holocene Geomagnetic Field Variations From La Palma Lava Flows (Canary Islands, Spain): Unraveling Viscous Components

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract We present new vector paleomagnetic data from 13 radiometrically dated lava‐flows in southern La Palma (Canary Islands) spanning from 1 to 56 ka, which covers most of the Late Pleistocene to prehistoric Holocene volcanic record in the island.

Recycling pre-oxidized chromite fines in the oxidative sintered pellet production process

open access: yesJournal of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, 2019
is well-known for its corrosion resistance, which is mainly due to the inclusion of chromium (Cr) (ICDA, 2013). Stainless steel is mostly produced from recycled scrap and ferrochrome (FeCr), a relatively crude alloy of Cr and iron (Fe).

Graphite crystallinity and thermal record in Campo del Cielo IAB iron meteorite: A window into impact processing on a chondritic body

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 2, Page 300-316, February 2026.
Abstract The Campo del Cielo iron meteorite (IAB‐MG) provides a unique window into early solar system processes, particularly the formation and evolution of carbon phases in non‐magmatic iron meteorites. In this study, we conducted a systematic nanostructural investigation of three distinct graphite occurrences—cliftonite (type I), interstitial ...

The podiform chromitites in the Dagküplü and Kavad mines, Eskisehir ophiolite (NW-Turkey): Genetic implications of mineralogical and geochemical data

open access: yesGeologica Acta, 2009
Mantle tectonites from Eskisehir (NW-Turkey) include high-Cr chromitites with limited variation of Cr#, ranging from 65 to 82. Mg# ratios are between 54 and 72 and chromite grains contain up to 3.71 wt% Fe2O3 and 0.30 wt% TiO2.

Chemistry, Morphology and Origin of Magmatic-Reaction Chromite Stringers Associated with Anorthosite in the Upper Critical Zone at Winnaarshoek, Eastern Limb of the Bushveld Complex

open access: yesJournal of Petrology, 2018
The occurrence of numerous chromitite layers within the Rustenburg Layered Suite of the Bushveld Complex, South Africa, has been widely cited in models to explain the origin of the igneous layering.

High temperature oxidation resistance of rare earth chromite coated Fe-20Cr and Fe-20Cr-4Al alloys

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2007
Doped lanthanum chromite has been used in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) interconnects. The high costs involved in obtaining dense lanthanum chromite have increased efforts to find suitable metallic materials for interconnects.

Review of catalytic systems and thermodynamics for the Guerbet condensation reaction and challenges for biomass valorization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Guerbet condensation reaction is an alcohol coupling reaction that has been known for more than a century. Because of the increasing availability of bio-based alcohol feedstock, this reaction is of growing importance and interest in terms of value ...
