A large number of podiform chromitite bodies of massive, disseminated and nodular type have been located in ultramafic units, composed of depleted mantle harzburgite and dunite of the Marmaris Peridotite from Ortaca (Mugla, SW Turkey). The chromite ore bodies are surrounded by dunite envelopes of variable thickness, exhibiting transitional boundaries ...

Role of water in the origin of podiform chromitite deposits
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2002Abstract We report experiments in basalt oversaturated with water to duplicate the nodular ore textures of podiform chromitite ores. In immiscible basalt–water systems saturated with olivine and chromite, olivine will reside in the melt while chromite will collect in the fluid phase.

An (EMPA+SIMS) investigation of silicate inclusions in Troodos chromitites
2007Silicate inclusions (< 10 μm size) in Troodos ophiolite chromites were studied for the first time in terms of major, minor and Rare Earth Elements to investigate magmatic processes that lead to chromitite crystallization. The study was focused on silicate inclusions detected in chromite grains of chromitite pods in the enveloping dunite, and their ...
