Phytoaccumulation of chromium by hemp and ryegrass in rice husk biochars, nano-zero valent zinc and vermicompost amended tannery wastewater soil

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
Chromium (Cr) contamination of soil threatens environmental and human health, necessitating effective and sustainable remediation solutions. Here we explored the impact of rice husk biochar (RH-BC), nano-RH-BC, vermicompost, nano-zero valent zinc (nZVZn),

Theoretical estimates for proton-NMR spin-lattice relaxation rates of heterometallic spin rings

open access: yes, 2005
Heterometallic molecular chromium wheels are fascinating new magnetic materials. We reexamine the available experimental susceptibility data on MCr7 wheels in terms of a simple isotropic Heisenberg Hamiltonian for M=Fe, Ni, Cu, and Zn and find in that ...

Rheocasting versus Die Casting: An Insight into the Low‐Cycle Fatigue Behavior of AlSi7Mg0.6

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study compares rheocast lightweight components with high‐pressure die cast materials regarding microstructure and fatigue behavior. Rheocast process offers higher efficiency due to lower casting temperatures. Despite some microstructural differences, both processes show similar strengths (yield strength 125 MPa, tensile strength 240 MPa).

Mechanically Deposited Wear‐Resistant Amorphous Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanically deposited from glassy ribbons, the Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 amorphous coating formed a hard, continuous layer on AISI 1010 steel, tripling substrate hardness, lowering friction, and reducing wear. Despite its rough surface, it showed friction and wear behavior comparable to the crystalline alloy, highlighting its strong potential as a durable ...

Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Health risk assessment of heavy metals in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) grown in artificially contaminated substrates

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica
This study aimed to determine the levels of Cd, Cr and Pb in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) cultivated on artificially contaminated substrates and to assess their potential harmful effects on human health via the calculation of the target hazard quotients (

Effects of dietary supplemental chromium methionine, zinc oxide, and ascorbic acid on performance, egg quality traits, and blood parameters of laying hens subjected to heat stress

open access: yesJournal of Applied Animal Research, 2018
Based on a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial, the effects of three dietary supplemental including chromium methionine (Cr) (0 and 400 μg/kg diet), zinc oxide (Zn) (0 and 30 mg/kg diet), and vitamin C (VitC) (0 and 250 mg/kg diet) on egg production (EP) and mass (EM ...
