Elevated Temperature Oxidation and Corrosion of a Titanium Aluminide Alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Titanium aluminides are being developed to expand the temperature capability of titanium alloys with maximum service temperatures around 700*C. These materials also have the ability to replace nickel superalloys with potential applications in the high ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Constitution, Metallurgy, and Oxidation Resistance of Iron-Chromium- Aluminum Alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 1958
The constitution of iron-chromium -aluminum alloys was investigated employing high-purity materials. Ternary sections illustrating the results are presented. The limits of the alpha-plus-sigma region are found to extend from 33 to 63 wt.% chromium at 600

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Salivary Chromium and Cobalt Concentrations in Patients with Dental Metallic Restorations—A Pilot Study

open access: yesDentistry Journal
Introduction: Metal ions, released from dental alloys due to corrosion, come in contact with the cells of the surrounding tissues and may spread throughout the body via the gastrointestinal system, thus inducing dose-dependent cytopathological effects ...
