Record Chromosome Number in a Mammal?

Nature New Biology, 1972
CROSS has reported1, 2 chromosome complements in rodents ranging up to 2n=84 (in the North American geomyid Geomys breviceps) and 2n=86 (in the heteromyid Dipodomys merriami). Matthey has contested3 this claim; he maintained that in Geomys bursarius 2n =70 or 72 and he doubted whether a higher number had been confirmed. Numbers in the 2n=70 to 80 range

Chromosome Numbers of Cerastium Species

Nature, 1950
THE chromosomes of four species of Cerastium, namely, C. vulgatum, C. alpinum (including C. alpinum lanatum), C. arvense and C. perfoliatum, have been counted from root-tips of young seedlings. I give here a list of chromosome counts made by previous workers, none of which is of British material, together with my own counts.

The Number and Morphology of Moss Chromosomes

Stain Technology, 1954
The time that suitable cytological material is available can be extended by bringing mosses into the laboratory in late winter and keeping them in covered glass dishes placed in strong diffuse light. Best growth of the gametophyte occurs at 68-70° F. and at a relative humidity just high enough to prevent the leaves from curling.
