Reduced Necrosis and Content of Apoptotic M1 Macrophages in Advanced Atherosclerotic Plaques of Mice With Macrophage-Specific Loss of Trpc3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In previous work we reported that ApoeKO mice transplanted with bone marrow cells deficient in the Transient Receptor Potential Canonical 3 (TRPC3) channel have reduced necrosis and number of apoptotic macrophages in advanced atherosclerotic plaques ...

W‐Based Thin Film Metallic Glasses Doped with Ni, Zr, and B for Industrial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work is the first to deal with a comprehensive comparison of two metallic glass systems, W–Zr–B and W–Ni–B, in terms of their suitability for specific industrial applications. Their mechanical and tribological properties are compared and discussed in combination with structural homogeneity on different types of technically relevant substrates and ...

A hypothetical proposal for association between migraine and Meniere's disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Meniere's disease (MD) is a chronic condition affecting the inner ear whose precise etiology is currently unknown. We propose the hypothesis that MD is a migraine-related phenomenon which may have implications for future treatment options for both ...

Energy Dissipation in Nonlinearly Elastic Auxetic and Non‐Auxetic Mechanical Metamaterials with Friction and Material Damping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a hyperelastic mechanical metamaterial for elastic energy dissipation. Energy is dissipated within its unit cells by friction assisted by material damping. Frictional contact is enhanced when using auxetic unit cells. The load–displacement plot for one compression cycle shows a pronounced hysteresis loop, indicating that a large ...

Chronic-Contained Rupture of an Isolated Internal Iliac Arterial Aneurysm: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Radiological Society, 2008
We describe here a 57-year-old woman with a chronic-contained rupture of an internal iliac arterial aneurysm, and this was eroding the sacral neural foramen. Although an isolated internal iliac arterial aneurysm is known to be rare, the ruptured internal iliac arterial aneurysm was diagnosed based on the characteristic radiolgic findings with ...

Multimodal Characterization Method for Metamaterials with Tunable Mechanical Stiffness and Electrical Resistivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a multimodal characterization method for a prototype metamaterial model structure that features four distinct states of mechanical stiffness and electrical resistivity. Through simulations and experiments, it uncovers insights into the structural behavior, the correlation between changes in electrical resistivity and mechanical ...

Study of the Effect of Process Parameters and Heat Treatment on the Formation and Evolution of Directed Energy Deposition of IN718‐CuCrZr Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic structures of Inconel 718 and CuCrZr are fabricated using the laser powder directed energy deposition method. The study reveals a strong dependence of interface characteristics such as width and interfusion on processing and heat treatment strategies.
