Scenario of chronic dermatophytosis: An Indian study
Mycopathologia, 1997Chronic dermatophytosis was observed in 2276 (10.02%) of 22,692 patients with dermatophytosis during a period of 5.5 years. Males were affected at least 3 times more frequently than females. The age group most commonly affected was between 20 and 40 years of age. Females were affected more between the ages of 30 to 40 years.

Treatment of Chronic Dermatophytosis and Chronic Oral Candidosis with Itraconazole
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1987Itraconazole was evaluated in patients with forms of superficial fungal infection that were previously unresponsive to treatment. Two groups of patients were treated, those with chronic dermatophytosis caused by Trichophyton rubrum affecting the body (10) or palm (five) and those with chronic oral candidosis (eight).

Immediate and delayed hypersensitivity in chronic dermatophytosis.
Archives of dermatology, 1976Delayed hypersensitivity (DH) to seven common antigens was examined in 38 men with chronic dermatophyte infections and in 20 controls. A similar percentage of the infected and the control groups reacted to four antigens. In addition to showing a low frequency of DH to trichophytin, the infected group also showed a significant reduction in their ...

T-Lymphocyte Subpopulations in Patients with Chronic Dermatophytosis
International Archives of Allergy and Applied Immunology, 2009T lymphocytes with Fc receptors for IgM (Tm cells) or IgG (Tg cells), known under certain conditions to exert help or suppression, and T-helper and T-suppressor cells, defined by fluorescein-isothiocyanate-conjugated monoclonal antibodies, were determined in 7 patients with chronic dermatophytosis.

Antibodies with Affinity for Epithelial Tissue in Chronic Dermatophytosis
Dermatologica, 2009Antibodies to dermatophytes which also had affinity for intercellular material of epithelial tissue, were detected in sera from 80% of patients with chronic dermatophytosis using an indirect fluorescent antibody test. The class of immunoglobulins reactive with both the dermatophyte and the epithelial tissue was identified as IgM.

A Chronic Disseminated Dermatophytosis Due to Trichophyton violaceum
Mycopathologia, 2014A 48-year-old female had presented dandruff and breakable hair for more than 40 years, dry scaly erythema on bilateral palms and feet accompanying with nail destruction for 20 years, and scaling papules on the buttock for 5 years. Direct microscopic examination showed endothrix anthroconidia within broken hair and septate and branched hyphae within ...

AbstractCongenital ichthyosiform erythroderma is an autosomal recessive ichthyosis characterized by severe scaling and erythroderma. We report a family of three siblings who were all born with a collodion membrane and presented with diffuse scaling and pruritus.

Chronic dermatophytosis due to Microsporum persicolor infection in three dogs
Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1992ABSTRACT Microsporum persicolor, a rare zoophilic dermatophyte, was isolated from three dogs with skin disease of between three and five years duration. Skin lesions consisted of scaling with minimal alopecia or erythema. Severe inflammatory changes were not observed clinically and pruritus was absent or mild.

Summary: In patients with chronic dematophytosis elevated total serum IgE levels were found (<450 in 36, >450 in 32, and >1000 in 27 patients). The elevated IgE levels were associated with lower T‐cell counts. The chemotactic and phagocytic activities of monocytes were examined in 24 and 23 patients, respectively.

Persistent Trichophyton rubrum infection has been observed previously in association with Cushing's syndrome. In this article, we demonstrate IgE-mediated sensitivity to Trichophyton in a patient with chronic dermatophytosis secondary to Cushing's syndrome.
