Review of Gastrointestinal Capsule Robots: Materials, Actuation, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review examines gastrointestinal capsule robots through a systems engineering lens, covering shell materials, actuation and localization strategies, diagnostic modalities, therapeutic interventions, and commercialization status. By mapping the complete technological chain from fabrication to clinical deployment, this work identifies critical gaps ...

Copenhagen Mesenteric stent study (COMESS)—a randomized trial of stent versus covered stent treatment for chronic mesenteric ischemia

open access: yesTrials
Background Current management of mesenteric ischemia is primarily endovascular stent treatment. Typical CMI symptoms are postprandial abdominal pain, food fear, weight loss, and diarrhea.

Multidisciplinary management of an intussuscepted ilio-mesenteric bypass causing an enteric fistula

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques
Acute mesenteric ischemia is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate surgical revascularization. Enteric fistulization following bypass for mesenteric ischemia is a rare complication that carries significant morbidity and mortality.

Rhoifolin Alleviates Ulcerative Colitis by Targeting NMNAT1 and Activating SIRT1‐FOXO1 Signaling to Enhance ILC3s Effector Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rhoifolin directly targets NMNAT1, thereby activating nicotinamide salvage pathway and promoting intracellular NAD+ biosynthesis. Elevated NAD+ levels enhance SIRT1 activity, leading to FOXO1 deacetylation and nuclear translocation. Nuclear FOXO1 subsequently binds to the IL‐22 promoter, upregulating IL‐22 transcription and potentiating ILC3 effector ...

ROS‐Responsive Nanoparticle Delivery of Dexmedetomidine Protects the Gut Vascular Barrier After Intestinal Ischemia/Reperfusion via the HDAC‐H3K27ac‐TCF4 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A low dose of dexmedetomidine, delivered by ROS‐responsive nanoparticles, preferentially accumulates in the ischemic intestine and restores gut vascular barrier integrity after ischemia/reperfusion injury. This nanoparticle‐based strategy prevents bacterial translocation and liver damage without cardiorespiratory side effects, working through HDAC ...

An Unusual Case of Colon Perforation Complicating Acute Pancreatitis

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastroenterology, 2009
Colonic complications of severe acute pancreatitis occur rarely. Although there have been several theories on how pancreatic pseudocysts rupture into the colon, the exact pathogenesis remains unknown. We report an unusual case of pseudocysts complicating

Effect of Cyclic Heat Exposure on the Growth Performance and Metabolism of Broilers Fed Palm Kernel Meal

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The aim of our study is to evaluate the interaction between HS and the incorporation of PKM in broiler chicken diets, as well as its effect on growth performance and metabolism. Based on the results obtained, PKM supplementation failed to mitigate the adverse effects of heat stress in broiler chickens. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the

Case report of suspected Takayasu arteritis manifesting as chronic mesenteric ischaemia: a rare cause for a typical clinical picture

open access: yesAngiologia e Cirurgia Vascular, 2022
INTRODUCTION: Chronic intestinal ischemia accounts for approximately 1:1,000,000 admissions in some epidemiological studies. This condition usually affects individuals with known atherosclerotic lesion in other territories.

Possible therapeutic repositioning of valproic acid: From epileptic seizures to acute kidney injury

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Valproic acid, an anticonvulsant, may be repositioned to prevent acute kidney injury due to ischemia followed by reperfusion. It preserves renal functions, electrolyte homeostasis and active sodium transport in kidney tubules, and blocks the onset of hypertension.
