Chronic Atherosclerotic Mesenteric Ischemia That Started to Develop Symptoms Just after Anaphylaxis

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastroenterology, 2012
An 83-year-old woman was referred to our emergency department with acute urticaria and sudden shortness of breath approximately 30 min after taking rectal diclofenac potassium for lumbago.

Inborn errors of immunity in children with neuroinflammation

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract Inborn errors of immunity (IEIs), an expanding group of monogenic disorders with diverse clinical manifestations, are increasingly recognized to include neuroinflammatory disease. Examples of diseases included under this umbrella are Aicardi–Goutières syndrome, deficiency of adenosine deaminase 2, familial haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis ...

Dyslipidaemia, Chronic Kidney Disease and Diabetes Mellitus: A Triple Threat to Cardiovascular Health

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) frequently coexist and together create a ‘triple threat’ with dyslipidaemia, enhancing the risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) leads to altered lipid metabolism through insulin resistance, inflammation and oxidative stress resulting in an ...

Cisterna Chyli Dilation Is a Risk Factor for Liver Nodules and Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Fontan‐Associated Liver Disease: Pathophysiological Role of Lymphatic Dysfunction

open access: yesHepatology Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim In Fontan‐associated liver disease (FALD), chronic congestion often confounds conventional fibrosis markers, complicating surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Although lymphatic dysfunction is fundamental to Fontan physiology, its contribution to hepatocarcinogenesis remains unclear.

Successful endovascular treatment of a symptomatic perivisceral/juxtarenal coral reef aortic lesion using balloon-expandable aortic, mesenteric, and renal parallel/snorkel stent grafts

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques
Coral reef aorta (CRA) has been defined as calcified, often eccentric abdominal aortic plaques that frequently extend into the lumina of the visceral and renal arteries and cause chronic mesenteric, renal, and lower limb ischemia.

Multiscale analysis of the adult human superior hypogastric plexus and hypogastric nerve

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Using tissue clearing and light‐sheet microscopy methods, we visualized the 3D mesoscopic arrangement of neural tracts, blood vessels and neurons within the adult human superior hypogastric plexus and hypogastric nerves, identifying the latter to contain thousands of neuronal cells bodies embedded along its entire length.

Endovascular treatment of chronic mesenteric ischemia

open access: yesInterventional Medicine and Applied Science, 2014
Abstract Purpose Data regarding endovascular treatment of chronic mesenteric ischemia (CMI) are sparse. Angioplasty is often accompanied by early restenosis and the need of further interventions. Thus we present our own patients' data and review the recent literature.

TMEM16A channel signalling microdomains in the regulation of vascular function

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Schematic representation of TMEM16A channel signalling microdomains. Calcium influx or calcium release from the endoplasmic/sarcoplasmic reticulum (ER/SR) activates TMEM16A channels through interactions with regulatory proteins in vascular smooth muscle cells or endothelial cells. TMEM16A channel activation drives chloride efflux,

Chronic Mesenteric Ischemia: Diagnosis and Treatment [PDF]

open access: yesSeminars in Interventional Radiology, 2009
Chronic mesenteric ischemia is a rare condition, generally characterized by postprandial abdominal pain. Although chronic mesenteric ischemia accounts for only a small percentage of all mesenteric ischemic events, it can have significant clinical consequences. There are multiple etiologies; however, the most common cause is atherosclerosis.
