Puberty in Chronic Renal Failure

Advances in Renal Replacement Therapy, 1999
Puberty is a period of transition characterized by a sequence of profound physical and psychological changes leading to full sexual maturity. This process is driven and orchestrated by the awakening of the gonadotropic hormone axis. Chronic renal failure and its treatment may interfere with the onset and progress of puberty by numerous mechanisms ...

Ultrasonography in chronic renal failure

European Journal of Radiology, 2003
Many chronic renal diseases lead to the final common state of decrease in renal size, parenchymal atrophy, sclerosis and fibrosis. The ultrasound image show a smaller kidney, thinning of the parenchyma and its hyperechogenicity (reflecting sclerosis and fibrosis). The frequency of renal cysts increases with the progression of the disease.

Melatonin in Chronic Renal Failure

Nephron, 2008
The melatonin status of patients in end-stage chronic renal failure (CRF) was evaluated by the determination of daytime plasma melatonin levels and by the investigation of the circadian rhythmicity of melatonin secretion. A significant increase in plasma melatonin concentration was found in all CRF patient groups investigated, i.e.

PARATHYROIDECTOMY IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1986
Between 1978 and 1984, 19 patients at Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) underwent parathyroidectomy for secondary (renal) hyperparathyroidism. This represented 6.0% of the overall dialysis population treated at RPH during this period of time. The mean duration of pre‐operative dialysis for these 19 patients was 48 months, compared with a mean duration of 30 ...

Endothelin in chronic renal failure

Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, 1992
The aims of the present study were to determine plasma endothelin (ET) in chronically uraemic patients, the renal clearance of endogenous ET in normal dog and man, and the effect of acute volaemic expansion on ET. The mean plasma ET concentration in haemodialysis patients was 57.5 +/- 5 pg/ml before haemodialysis and remained unchanged at 52.5 +/- 5 pg/

Hyperlipidemia of Chronic Renal Failure

Blood Purification, 2008
Plasma triglycerides are increased in the majority of patients with advanced renal failure but cholesterol is not. HDL cholesterol is reduced while LDL IDL and VLDL cholesterol is increased. Lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT), an enzyme necessary for HDL maturation, is reduced in chronic renal failure (CRF).

Chronic Renal Failure in Horses

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Equine Practice, 2007

This article describes the prevalence, causes, clinical signs, diagnostic

Anemia of Chronic Renal Failure

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1971
To the Editor.— In your editorial "Anemia of Chronic Renal Failure," ( 214 :1880, 1970), you have chosen to quote Boddy et al who find decreased intestinal absorption of radioactive iron in patients with chronic renal failure, implying that this may be one of several important mechanisms in the etiology of this anemia.
