Evaluation of coagulation activation after Rhinovirus infection in patients with asthma and healthy control subjects: an observational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Asthma exacerbations are frequently triggered by rhinovirus infections. Both asthma and respiratory tract infection can activate haemostasis. Therefore we hypothesized that experimental rhinovirus-16 infection and asthmatic airway inflammation

Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Hemodynamic effects of combined antihypertensive therapy during exercise in men with arterial hypertension and chronic venous diseases

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2021
Introduction. Currently, there is insufficient data on the effect of modern antihypertensive therapy (AHT) on venous circulation, especially during physiological stress.Aim of the study – the investigation was to study the hemodynamic effects of a ...

Oxygen Extraction Ratio (OER) as a Measurement of Hemodialysis (HD) Induced Tissue Hypoxia: A Pilot Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
HD tissue hypoxia associates with organ dysfunctions. OER, the ratio between SaO2and central-venous-oxygen-saturation, could estimate oxygen requirements during sessions, but no data are available.

CHIVA method for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency.

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2015
BACKGROUND Many surgical approaches are available to treat varicose veins secondary to chronic venous insufficiency. One of the least invasive techniques is the ambulatory conservative hemodynamic correction of venous insufficiency method (cure ...

HSP70 governs permeability and mechanotransduction in primary human endothelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HSP70 chemical inhibition reduces endothelial cell proliferation and increases permeability, the latter supported by normal interendothelial junctional protein distribution. HSP70 also plays a role in shear stress response, a hemodynamic force naturally present in blood vessels and correlated with vessel protection.

Diosmin Alleviates Venous Injury and Muscle Damage in a Mouse Model of Iliac Vein Stenosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a progressive inflammatory disease that increases in prevalence with age. Elucidating the underlying molecular mechanism of CVD development is essential for disease prevention and treatment.

Dietary nitrate and nitrite protect against doxorubicin‐induced cardiac fibrosis and oxidative protein damage in tumor‐bearing mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...
