Steroids and Churg-Strauss syndrome

Leukotriene receptor antagonists have been introduced for the treatment of asthma. These drugs counteract the inflammation, bronchospasm, and airway oedema caused by leukotrienes. The first of these agents used as a commercial product, zafirlukast (Accolate, Zeneca Pharmaceuticals), has been reported to be effective, with few and mild adverse reactions.

Churg-Strauss syndrome (allergic granulomatous angiitis) was described by Churg, J. and Strauss, L. in 1951 and was classified as a definite form of systemic vasculitis which was separated from classical periarteritis nodosa and other forms of necrotising angiitis by Zeek, P.M. in 1953.
