Computational and experimental analysis of the churning power losses in an industrial planetary speed reducer [PDF]

open access: yesWIT Transactions on Engineering Sciences, 2012
Advantages of planetary speed reducers are well known and due to their compact design and power density they are suitable for a wide range of applications. Efficiency is becoming more and more of a main concern in the design of power transmissions and the demand for high efficiency gearboxes is continuously increasing.

Analytical and Experimental Investigation of Windage–Churning Behavior in Spur, Bevel, and Face Gears

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This paper presents comparable sets of the no-load power loss as a product of windage and churning behaviors of a family of various rotating parts (i.e., disc, spur gear, straight bevel gear, and orthogonal face gear).

On the Energy Efficiency of Dual Clutch Transmissions and Automated Manual Transmissions

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
The main benefits of dual clutch transmissions (DCTs) are: (i) a higher energy efficiency than automatic transmission systems with torque converters; and (ii) the capability to fill the torque gap during gear shifts to allow seamless longitudinal ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Influence of lubricant type on churning power loss of worm gear

open access: yesTribology and Materials
This paper presents the results of experimental tests of the churning power loss of a single-stage worm gear. The churning power loss is a load-independent loss that occurs when the gear churns through the lubricant. This study will solely look at how churning power losses are affected by mineral and synthetic oil on a test worm gear pair where the ...
