Changes in plant flammability‐related traits to fire regime characteristics and biomass conditions in the Cerrado

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 112, Issue 10, October 2025.
(A) Plant flammability‐related traits according to fire frequency and fire history in open savannas of the Cerrado. (B) The relationships between biomass conditions with flammability components. Abstract Premise Flammability‐related traits in open savanna plant communities may shift in response to fire frequency (high vs. low) and history (recently vs.

Climate Change in the Brazilian Cerrado: A Looming Threat to Terrestrial Biodiversity

open access: yesWIREs Climate Change, Volume 16, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
Due to climate change, the Brazilian Cerrado, a global biodiversity hotspot, is becoming hotter and drier, with longer and more intense dry seasons. This alters biodiversity by altering plant physiology, ecological interactions, and species distribution, creating more homogeneous and less diverse communities.

Host species and age‐specific variation on Hepatozoon prevalence and its effect on body condition in two Neotropical crocodiles

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2025, Issue 5, September 2025.
Many populations of species belonging to the order Crocodilia are threatened due to illegal trafficking, indiscriminate hunting, and habitat loss and degradation affecting crocodilian health and parasitic load. Although several studies have revealed that crocodiles, caimans, and alligators are frequently infected by Hepatozoon spp., the results from ...

Morphological and molecular data on the bat flies, Basilia silvae (Brèthes, 1913) and Trichobius parasiticus Gervais, 1844 parasitizing Chilean bats

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 3, Page 422-430, September 2025.
We determined morphological and molecularly two species of bat flies: T. parasiticus (Streblidae), and B. silvae (Nycteribiidae). We generated the first sequences for both species in the country for the cytochrome oxidase subunit I. We do recover monophyletic groups for both species, and we discussed the tree topology.

Host–parasite relationship in urban environments: A network analysis of haemoparasite infections in Nasua nasua Linnaeus (South American coati)

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 3, Page 456-463, September 2025.
Urban environments alter host–parasite dynamics, as seen in Nasua nasua, where haemotropic Mycoplasma plays a key role in parasite spread through frequent social interactions. Network analysis revealed low modularity in interactions between N. nasua and tick‐borne haemoparasites, with functional roles unaffected by biotic factors, tick infestation or ...
