The cost of parental care inHaplochromis ‘argens’ (Cichlidae)

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 1994
The cost of parental care in the maternal, mouthbrooding cichlid,Haplochromis ‘argens’ was measured in terms of parental survival, fecundity and breeding frequency. In comparison with non-parental females, those that mouthbrooded eggs for a period of 16 days took 33 % longer to respawn. Parental females also grew more slowly between spawnings, and this

A study on melanophore receptors of Papiliochromis ramirezi (teleostei, cichlidae)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 1984
Melanophores of Papiliochromis ramirezi aggregate their melanosomes in the presence of catecholamines. Their order of potency are: at 10(-4) M, norepinephrine greater than isoproterenol = epinephrine; at 10(-6) and 10(-8) M, norepinephrine = isoproterenol greater than epinephrine.

On the Fighting Behaviour of Nannacara anomala (Pisces, Cichlidae) ♂♂

Zeitschrift für Tierpsychologie, 2010
We present a quantitative analysis of the fighting behaviour of Nannacara anomala ♂♂ in a situation where asymmetries in size, dominance-relations and residency are as far as possible under control. Differences in the frequency distribution of individual behaviour patterns over time and differences in the reaction pattern towards acts from the other ...

Karyotypes of six species of African Cichlidae (Pisces: Perciformes)

Experientia, 1981
Diploid numbers of 40–46 were found among the 6 species of African Cichlidae included in this karyotypic study. More species must be studies before any generalized conclusions regarding correlations between karyotypic morphology and phylogeny can be made.
