Sensitivity of Cichlasoma facetum (Cichlidae, Pisces) to Metals

open access: yesBulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2004
Although most of the existent information regarding the sensitivity of fish to pollutants has aimed to the study of Holartic species (Ramamoorthy and Baddaloo 1995), contributions on organisms from other types of ecological communities belonging to Neotropical environments have been recently undertaken considering native and introduced species ...

Bdh1l Gene Expression Is a Potential Molecular Factor in the Evolution of Carotenoid‐Based Colour Diversity of Cichlid Fishes

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 18, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Carotenoids contribute substantially to animal body colour pattern diversity. While the ecological and evolutionary drivers of carotenoid coloration are reasonably well understood, the molecular mechanisms facilitating evolutionary transitions between red and yellow hues are less investigated.

Fish Diversity and Environmental Relationships in the Jinsha River During the Initial Phases of the 10‐Year Fishing Ban: A Metabarcoding Approach

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
Using eDNA metabarcoding, we identified 61 fish species in the Jinsha river during the early stage of the Yangtze river fishing ban. Fish diversity showed seasonal and regional variation, with Cypriniformes as the dominant group. Key environmental factors like temperature and dissolved oxygen were closely linked to diversity patterns.

Improving Whole Biodiversity Monitoring and Discovery With Environmental DNA Metagenomics

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 6, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Environmental DNA (eDNA) metagenomics sequences all DNA molecules present in environmental samples and has the potential of identifying virtually any organism from which they are derived. However, due to unacceptable levels of false positives and negatives, this approach is underexplored as a tool for biodiversity monitoring across the tree of
