Atypical CIDP: diagnostic criteria, progression and treatment response. Data from the Italian CIDP Database [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2018
ObjectivesA few variants of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) have been described, but their frequency and evolution to typical CIDP remain unclear. To determine the frequency and characteristics of the CIDP variants, their possible evolution to typical CIDP, and treatment response.MethodsWe applied a set of diagnostic ...

Quantitative Neuromuscular MRI in CIDP Patients: Interest of a Multiparametric Approach. [PDF]

open access: yesEur J Neurol
Multiparametric quantitative MRI (qMRI) of nerves and muscles identifies distinct structural alterations in CIDP. Nerve volume is increased while magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) is reduced in leg muscle, with MTR showing the strongest correlations with clinical disability and electrophysiological measures.

Treatment of CIDP

open access: yesPractical Neurology, 2022
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy is a disabling but treatable disorder. However, misdiagnosis is common, and it can be difficult to optimise its treatment. Various agents are used both for first and second line. First-line options are intravenous immunoglobulin, corticosteroids and plasma exchange.

CIDP mimics: a case series [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Neurology, 2021
Abstract Background To report our experience with a group of patients referred for refractory CIDP who fulfilled “definite” electrodiagnostic EFNS criteria for CIDP but were found to have an alternate diagnosis. Methods Patients who were seen between 2017 and 2019 for ...

Absence of proximal muscle weakness, dysarthria, and facial diplegia suggests Guillain–Barre syndrome rather than CIDP

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery, 2022
The aim of this letter to the editor is to discuss the etiology and pathophysiology of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) in two patients, of whom one experienced a mildly symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection 2 months prior to onset of ...

The comparison of MRN, electrophysiology and progression among typical CIDP and atypical CIDP subtypes [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
AbstractWe aimed to compare the electrophysiology and magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) results of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) subtypes and to explore the progression from atypical CIDP to typical CIDP. We collected the medical records of 45 CIDP patients to analyse the rate of progression from atypical CIDP to ...

CIDP and isolated osteosclerotic myeloma [PDF]

open access: yesNeurology, 2004
A 44-year-old man developed a progressive severe tetraparesis and hypesthesia within 4 months due to chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP); a diagnosis reached through motor nerve conduction studies, CSF analysis, and …

Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy and Evaluation of the Visual Evoked Potentials: A Review of the Literature

open access: yesMedicina, 2023
Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterised by the progressive demyelination of peripheral nerves, resulting in motor and sensory deficits.
