Serious Bacterial Infections in Hospitalized Neonates in Eastern Ethiopia: Investigating the Emerging Pathogen Pantoea dispersa Compared With Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Serious bacterial infections (SBIs) are major contributors to neonatal morbidity and mortality in low‐income countries. We describe the aetiology and risk factors for neonatal bacteraemia and in‐hospital mortality in eastern Ethiopia, focusing on Pantoea dispersa, a rarely studied pathogen, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

A systematic color correction pipeline for controlled‐environment imaging

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
ABSTRACT We present a stepwise color correction (CC) pipeline for controlled imaging environments. The workflow integrates flat‐field correction (FFC), gamma correction, and white‐balance correction, followed by a color‐mapping (CM) stage using machine‐learning regression—linear, partial least squares, and neural networks (NNs)—to deliver reliable CC ...

Deep learning and computer vision for image‐based high‐throughput phenotyping of canning quality traits in dry beans

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Canning color retention is a key quality trait in dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) breeding, influencing consumer acceptance and commercial value. Public breeding programs maintain canning quality as a selection trait of importance, but existing color evaluation methods such as visual rating are subjective, while instrument colorimetry is ...

Linking Palm Oil Quality Evolution During Frying to the Shelf‐Life of Low‐Temperature Vacuum‐Fried Whole Okra Crisps

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
This work establishes a direct link between the degradation of palm oil over repeated frying cycles and the subsequent shelf‐life of vacuum‐fried okra crisps. Controlling the number of frying cycles is identified as a critical point for ensuring long‐term product stability and quality. ABSTRACT The quality of frying oil is a critical determinant of the
