Impaired healing following implant placement surgery: A case report of a modern‐day manifestation of scurvy

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Delayed wound healing following implant placement surgery is an uncommon complication, usually attributed to systemic (smoking and alcohol), local (severely inflamed tissues), or technical (poor suturing) factors. However, delayed wound healing after implant placement caused by severe hypovitaminosis C has not been previously ...

Effect of different flue gas recirculation rates on low‐NOx combustion characteristics: A numerical simulation based on the combustion process of a gas boiler

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract NOx emissions from gas boilers severely impact the environment, and flue gas recirculation (FGR) technology can effectively reduce such emissions, yet the effects of different FGR rates on combustion performance and NOx formation remain unclear. This study thus used numerical simulation (via ANSYS Fluent, adopting the realizable k‐ε turbulence

Cytopathologic Features of Metastatic Malignant Mesothelioma With SMARCB1 (INI‐1) Deficient Diagnosed by Ultrasound‐Guided Fine‐Needle Aspiration: A Case Report

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is a rare yet aggressive neoplasm that arises from mesothelial cells lining the thoracic and abdominal cavities, the pericardium, and the tunica testis. Characterized by rapid progression, high invasiveness, and a poor prognosis, MM poses significant clinical challenges. SMARCB1, also referred to as INI‐1, hSNF5, or

Machine learning‐based prediction of elevated N terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide among US general population

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 859-868, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Natriuretic peptide‐based pre‐heart failure screening has been proposed in recent guidelines. However, an effective strategy to identify screening targets from the general population, more than half of which are at risk for heart failure or pre‐heart failure, has not been well established.

Cardiovascular toxicity induced by TKIs in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia: Are women and men different?

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1447-1454, April 2025.
This study analyzes 148 patients (66 women and 82 men) with chronic myeloid leukemia treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, focusing on cardiovascular adverse events. The risk assessment, performed using the HFA/ICOS score, reveals sex‐specific differences: venous thrombosis is more common in women, while arterial thrombosis predominates in men.

Self‐Discontinuity as a Barrier to Identity and Behaviour Change: Evidence From Smoking Cessation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Social Psychology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Extensive research has shown that resistance to behaviour change is often driven by the management of self‐related threats, traditionally conceptualized as threats to self‐esteem. The present research offers a novel perspective by examining behaviour change as a threat to self‐continuity (i.e., the perceived stability of one's self‐image over ...

Increased e-cigarette use prevalence is associated with decreased smoking prevalence among US adults

open access: yesHarm Reduction Journal
Background If US adults who smoke cigarettes are switching to e-cigarettes, the effect may be observable at the population level: smoking prevalence should decline as e-cigarette prevalence increases, especially in sub-populations with highest e ...
