Flow Field Analysis of Micromixer Powered by Ciliary Motion of Vorticella

Electronics and Communications in Japan, 2012
SUMMARYThe use of cilia from microorganisms requires design of the channel and the fabrication process. We developed a method of injecting Vorticella into a microchamber and exploited the properties of Vorticella as a micromixer of two solutions. We characterized a flow field generated by the ciliary motion of Vorticella.

The role of ciliary blood flow and ultrafiltration in aqueous humor formation

Experimental Eye Research, 1973
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to discuss the role played by transepithelial ultrafiltration in the formation of aqueous humor. Much of the discussion is based on published data. To give weight to conclusions some experiments were performed on rabbits, cats and monkeys. It is shown in rabbits that the normal difference in mean pressure between

Correlation Between Choroidal Thickness and Ciliary Artery Blood Flow Velocity in Normal Subjects

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 2015
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To study the correlation between the choroidal thickness (CT) measured by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and retrobulbar blood flow measured by color Doppler flowmetry (CD) in normal subjects.

Numerical Simulation of Flow Fields and Particle Trajectories in Ciliary Suspension Feeding

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 2000
A model describing the ciliary driven flow and motion of suspended particles in downstream suspension feeders is developed. The quasi-steady Stokes equations for creeping flow are solved numerically in an unbounded fluid domain around cylindrical bodies using a boundary integral formulation.
